2003-02-24 05:10:00 | Hi Could be a loopback error. have a look here www.viaarena.com While this may not specifically relate to your problem there are lots of tips on trouble shooting hardware and software problems and narrowing it down to one or the other. Also noticed this at the Epox site support.microsoft.com re loopback errors causing General Protection Faults in win95. This particular article is for prossessors over 1.1GB but it may lead you to something (haven't checked it myself, as yet, looking for something else and remembered your post). HTH Murray P

2003-02-24 05:22:00 | Just checked the MS link. Its the AMD K6 11 win95 bug, not what it suggests on the Epox site. Same result for prossessors above 350mhz. Fell foul of this one a year or 2 back. Might still be worth a look though. Cheers Murray P

2003-02-24 06:44:00 | Success... I took the CDR\RW out and reinstalled my old faithfull 8x CDROM and everything seems to be working OK again. It appears that it may be time to upgrade if I want to be able to burn CD's. Thanks for your help.

2003-02-24 07:44:00 | So, after all it was a really weird hardware effect that I dont think anyone could have thought of. Well done :) | Terry Porritt (14) | |
| 123117 | 2003-02-24 10:48:00 | I dunno Terry In my original post I asked: An old system Previously stable? What has changed/been installed recently? Was a bit of a clue don't you think ?:| Still, all's well that ends well, and working computers are what we are here for. I guess Win95 predated CD-RW so there would be no drivers for it.
