123285 2003-02-23 00:54:00 Could be for your CPU, but I don't actually know.
Open System Restore (Start - [All] Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore), select the option to 'Create a restore point', and enter a description for it. Then go to Windows Update, install the update, and if it tells you it needs to reboot, let it.

If anything goes wrong, then reset your computer, and hold F8 down. If you see the Windows XP splash screen, reset and try again. When you get the Boot Menu, select to boot into Safe Mode, then run System Restore and restore your computer to the point you created earlier.

Of course, this may be unneccesary, as Windows Update often makes restore points itself before installing things.

You would not be running a amd7 would you?

Anyway check the above link, scroll about half way down the page and click the More Information, this update could be something that MS has created for a if and when a certain chip or something is released, hopefully it will make more sense to you anyway.

123288 2003-02-23 07:57:00 What does that all mean? It confused me.

Also, there is all these nvidia drivers at 42.?? yet on www.nvidia.com they only have 41.09as the latest. very confusing.

123289 2003-02-23 10:05:00 Windows Update drivers are never as good as original manufacturer ones. Eg, when I update my audio software from Windows Update, the shortcut keys function doesn't work, so I just use the latest version from the manufacturers site (C-Media), which does work. agent (30)
123290 2003-02-23 13:50:00 NVIDIA 42.42 & 42.90 is available Here (www.guru3d.com).
Apparently the 42.90s have caused a lot of people unstability.
