123655 2003-02-25 01:20:00 hiya,
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good freeware app to convert windows .wma files to mp3 format?
I was annoyed last time I formatted my primary hard drive and went to play my saved music I was denied as I didn't have permission (license protection tactics I presume) to play my music.
Then some b******* stole some of my rarer CD's from my car so I cant appease the licensing god with the original cd! I really don't want to lose these files as they are rare and valuable to me.
This is really frustrating as I was stupid enough to use the microsoft 'solution' to storing music instead of using a ripper to save as mp3 in the first place.
P.S. Jeff Palmer is my "god of geek" and I always look forward to his witty and informative articles, they always have me chuckling away to meself

I have used Music Match Juke Box for the chore you have described. Its a free download too.

I didn't think Jeff Palmer was very funny when he was the Prime Minister. He makes Helen Clark seem really funny.

I meant Geoff Palmer from the magazine, but I think Jeff Palmer was funny too, just probably not intentional on his part!

But hey, the main point is that you'll be able to hear it again, so good luck.

I'd be interested to see if MusicMatch Jukebox can convert a 'licensed' .wma file.
