123651 2003-02-25 00:42:00 Hello,....i have got Windows M.e(oem) on a dell pentium3 800mhz,128MB and 20gb on hard drive.I use it for mostly chatting and surfing the internet..and have quite a bit of memory space free.I have zonealarm for a firewall, and update regularly the anti virus(norton OEM 2000..v6.20.04)
My question is ...what sort of system maintenance should i be doing e.g defrag, disk clean up,deleating temporary internet files etc.,if at all?.
Is there any problems with my system,or with any of this that i should watch out for?
Thank you in advance for answering my question,
Cheers.

thats for you to tell us ;-) :p

have a look in the FAQ's at the top of page. basic maintenance includes scandisk, defrag, clean out windows/temp folder. it pays to clean out index.dats after a fair while (how long depends on how much usage). check windows updates.

one thing to watch for is people love to clean out old files off the hardrive. this can be good but a lot end up deleteing files they need, so be carefull.

123653 2003-02-25 04:56:00 Just run spybot and adware regcleaner occasionally and do a defrag avoid trying out new software like me for the sake of trying them out , kiwibeat (304)
123654 2003-02-25 05:40:00 WindowsME is like no other windows OS, look after it and it will look after you .

Do a scandisk and defrag say once a month but if you were doing a lot of work with files I would suggest maybe more often but chatting and surfing is not that bad .

As Kiwi and Tweak have said, get both Adaware 6 and SpyBot and run each, they will seek out and advise of any spyware/adware, both are very good .

If you don't have a program to clean out your various folders such as WindowWasher then you can do it just as easily manually .

Look in C:/windows and locate the folders called Cookies and Temp Internet . All the cookies can be deleted as can all the Temp Internet contents . If you have never done this, this will free up some space as well .

Also WindowsME has System Restore, if you must fiddle then set a restore date so if things don't work out you can at least have a chance of going back in time . System Restore is enabled by default in WindowsME .
