123608 2003-02-24 14:33:00 In the last 4 months, whenever I go to specific web sites, IE just closes down. They are not "restricted" sites. Typically they are Australian Newspapers and their crossword pages, NZ sites (some crosswords), TradeMe and various links. I have McAffee security etc...but also have it on my laptop. No probs. Have been through all options and tried many settings. But still no joy. Have sort of ruled that out because no probs on the laptop.
Any ideas...
Please!

123609 2003-02-25 04:09:00 Do you mean "closes down" as in crashes? A couple more questions:

- What version of IE are you using and are all the patches applied?
- How long has the browser been open for, before this happens?
- Are you given any error messages?
- Do you clean out your Temporary Internet folder regularly?

123610 2003-02-26 21:57:00 Hi Jen.
I have IE6. I assume all patches are current. It has been "auto updated". It does not matter how long the browser has been open, it only depends on what sites I visit...always the same ones. The sites seem unrelated...eg "The Age" (Ozzie newspaper) and TradeMe.
The browser just disappears off the face of the earth...no warnings or messages. The internet connection is still live when this happens. I have to re-open IE.
I clean out my temp files frequently

123611 2003-02-26 22:21:00 Try going into your Control Panel
Choose Add/Remove Programs
Double click on Microsoft Internet Explorer
A pop-up window will appear, with three options.
Choose the Repair option and see if that helps sort it out.
You may also want to install IE6 with SP1, available on all the more recent PCW CD's.
Dont forget to run Ad-Aware afterwards though to remove the spyware ;-)

Hope this helps

123612 2003-02-27 01:23:00 What all those sites you mention have in common is extensive use of javascript and this might be a factor .

Check with this off to see if there is any change .
Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom level
Find Scripting/Active scripting and select disable .

Tools/Internet options/Advanced
Clear the Enable JIT Compiler check box .

This problem can also be caused video drivers
Try reducing resolution and or colors to see if there is any improvement .
