| 123470 | 2003-02-24 05:06:00 | I noticed that my cousin and I got LAN Ports thats part of our motherboard, and I want to have a LAN party with Him but I know nothing about networking or LAN. heres my questions 1. Do I get a LAN or Network cable and connect one end of the wire to my computer and the other end to my cousins computer? 2. How much does the cables cost, I don't have one. 3. Its only me and my cousins computer so thats only two computers I want to network, do I have to get one of those router switches thinggys?. I checked If I have any drivers installed and do "sis 900 PCI fast Ethernet Adapter" I think, and on the task bar theres the double monitors icon like when you connect on the internet but its not the internet icon and it has a cross on it. Ooh, I finally got my computer fixed, I went to a computer store (diff to the one I got my computer from) and got them to formatt and install winxp pro for me, and I finally got the fresh start i want, and so far no probs with my comp, I also got sp1 installed from pcworld disk. my cousin got a hewlett packard computer with winme thats all I know, can I network or do I have to buy a router swith thinggy. | 123471 | 2003-02-24 05:17:00 | Theres a whole FAQ on this stuff Tim. Read that first then come back for anything you don't understand. It will save us all (and you) a lot of time repeating advice that has already been refined and committed permanently to an FAQ for all to share. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 123474 | 2003-02-24 05:39:00 | You'll only need a Crossover Cable. | Kame (312) | ||
| 123475 | 2003-02-24 05:43:00 | Yes, don't get a cross-dressing cable. That has an RJ45 at each end but the packet says RJ11. (sorry, geek humour, attempted) robo. |
