2003-03-01 03:39:00 | And seeing Susans screenshot is missing from the server. heres an example of the 2x thing. (something.orcon.net.nz) Note that this is a screen shop taken from Opera, running SuSE-Linux, but that the princible is the same. The upper"X" kills the programme, the lower, or inner"X" shuts just the document being veiwed. You really should get this in any M$ office programme, and the 2 "X"s should be the same style, unlike here. .Clueless

2003-03-01 04:36:00 | Hi beetle, Some programs have a thing called "Full Screen Mode" where large parts of the menus are hidden. Can you see a menu at the top of the page? If not, does it pop-up when you move your mouse to the top of the page? If this is happening, move your mouse to the top of the page and Click View, Full Screen (Doing it a second time reverts it back to the way it was). Another possibility is: Can you see the top cross to the right of the blue bar at the top of the page? If you can't then it is possible that the whole program has moved sideways on the screen. To drag it back click the blue bar and, whilst holding the mouse button down, drag it over to the left.

2003-03-01 04:38:00 | Oops.. i just realised that i was confusing works with word. I suspect i might not be alone in this. I've installed the office suite, which includes "word" so many times now that i could so it in my sleep. Anything you had saved should still be there, the reinstallation of the programme is NOT the reinstallation of your saved works. .Clueless

2003-03-01 04:45:00 | Another thing, When you have a document open in Works how do you close it? If you use the menu and click File; Close it should only close the open document. If you click File; Exit it should close the document AND the program. (I'm assuming here that Works has these 2 options)

2003-03-01 05:02:00 | >What does a reinstall do? just overrite it? Yes.. thats about it. The therie is that if things have got a bit screwy, reinstalling will will replace the screwy program with a less screwy one. :D >microsoft should have had majorly different names for these word processor things, from different ends of the alphabet or somthing. I agree, Consider yourself lucky your not using Linix, where just about every programme name starts with "K" :p >thanxs to all who helped and to those whove read this are you as muddled as me? "Muddled" is a permanant state of mind for me i'm afraid :p .Clueless

2003-03-01 06:34:00 | Just to update The Team, Beetle and I have done the Remote Assistance thing and I have confirmed that Beetle has MS Works 6 . 0 with the Works word processor, not Word . The Works word processor is different to Word and definitely does not have the little X for closing individual documents . It just has one red button with white X for closing documents like Word has for closing the Word program so no wonder Beetle was confused . I have shown her how to switch between documents without closing down Works so that has been sorted out . Thanks Sam for suggesting Remote Assistance, it was successful . :-)
