123579 2003-02-26 07:01:00 sam: That is quite a good suggestion that you made. I have Win XP and would be quite happy to give remote assistance a go if beetle would like that. It is horribly frustrating not being able to see what beetle has on her screen, especially since I do not have that version of Works and cannot open it on my computer and try and replicate what she may have.

We still do not know for sure whether beetle has Word or the Works word processor but I strongly suspect that it is not Word that we are dealing with. Word only comes with the more expensive Works Suite and as far as I know the PC Company only supplies the standard version.

beetle, have a think about the remote assistance and if you would like to give it a try either get back to me here or have a fish around in my profile for my email address and contact me that way.

Iris: I am sure you will have no problems with Word if you upgrade. You sound pretty competent with Works and it is just like going from a little Honda Civic to a big Ford Falcon - it has more grunt but is still quite drivable. :D

123580 2003-02-26 08:42:00 ok yes i would like to do remote assistance but not rite now as im supposed to be doing just my homework rite now not checking pressf1.

i have no idea on how to access members info to get email address, either.
but i do use msn.

i treid the pc comp thing and it does not complete the job either so no luck there.
but its been doing weird stuff after doing that occasionally it went back to task launcher page. but still not working ok

just when i think i got it sussed in my brain someone else gives a sugestion (no offense intended) and im back to square one and totally lost.

123581 2003-02-26 08:59:00 Right then beetle, we will have a go sometime when you and I can arrange a mutually suitable time. My email address is topazz 10 @ hotmail . com

There are no spaces in that address -- I have added them to hopefully stop the spam harvesters. Send me an email when you are ready and we will go from there. Remember to put your name (beetle) in the email subject heading so that I can recognise you amongst the junk mail. ;-)

If anyone else has any brilliant ideas in the meantime, do fire away. :-)

123584 2003-02-27 08:31:00 ok um ive had a spare bit of time and ive been playing around in works, and have got as far as using works task launcher to goto the word processing, docu's but when i do that and go to tasl lauch programs page is there any way i can add my docus to the list?
just a file name or something that covers the whole lot to add to the existing list? eg, school, work, private. ? instead of wading through to blank docu and searching through the screeds of file docus?

but if i go to blank docu thing ill end up same rite? and go from there
or is that wishful thinking? anything to make life easier.

because this way of using works does not seem to always shut it...?
really weird.. sometimes it does an sometimes it doesnt.
but it has a close box in top right corner (2nd line) lol
but using works off start menu does not go through this set up at all.
why does this happen? two different ways to open works but both operate differently ? most of screen comes up same, still has no little x on 2nd line in docus, just on task launcher page.

and i had a look at remote thing, looks a bit .... dunno odd to have someone i cant see playing with my puter. not saying i dont wanna do it.

thanxs

123585 2003-02-27 20:33:00 beetle, at the task launcher try clicking on History and that should show you all the documents you have been working on .

I have found a couple of sites that might help you with MS Works a bit . One is about the Task Launcher here ( . pcd-innovations . com/infosite/msworks_suite_2000 . htm" target="_blank">www . pcd-innovations . com) and the other is about the Microsoft Works Suite 2000 ( . lycos . com/lycos/topic/1,,10+54+107,00 . html" target="_blank">howto . lycos . com) (not sure which version you have) .

Have a look at those pages as I am sure you will find something useful there .

123587 2003-02-28 05:54:00 ok got some news, pc comp finally came back (2 days later!) and told me cant fix it, via email and i should uninstall and reinstall the program but get this unless i give them a warranty number yhey will not give me details on how to do this!
thats a bit blunt.
i understand why but still seems a bit harsh, since the email address was set into the puter to use, for help.
so i either gotta find number, then learn how to do this or live with it.
this is legal ok for any one with questions!
i have a legal computer with legal programs, bought from reputable company/shop.
this uninstall / reinstall is it easy / hard to do and how long will it take?

wheres my fairy godmother when i need her?

123588 2003-03-01 03:12:00 Reinstalling?
Dead easy!!

1/Put the install disk in the computer, select uninstall.

2/Put the install disk in the computer, select install.

3/Give it the reg number and all that stuff it will annoy you for.

4/Select which progs you wish to install. It might be just word, it might be more.. That bit it up to you to choose.(These options will vary depending on version)

Note. There may be an option to repair, repair might just do the trick!
