Um no, not really, just voicing my personal opinion on a specific article.

You got some weird ideas man. I think you underestimate the farming community by quite a wide margin Liam. Maybe the ones you know are a little different from the ones I do

123900 2003-02-26 05:34:00 I lived out in the Marlborough Sounds at one stage. It was just one of those things:
no or little reception for anything other than TV1/2
slow internet (phone via radio waves)
long distances to travel in to town
mail once or twice a week
no supermarket round the corner
frequent power cuts
frequent phone outtages

Now in Christchurch:
Good dial-up speeds
TV channels
oportunity of fast internet
unclean air
noisy traffic

You live somewhere because it offers what you want.... not the other way round.

I'll give you that, lots of weird ideas; like this Ad-Hoc wireless LAN I'm setting up :) but that's another thread.

How many have you actually spoken to? I know several farming families with an interest in things not confined to just the the world of farming . Hey some even spend time on PressF1 helping city folk out with their computer woes, and I know a dairy farmer who runs a respected website http://www . pandasport . co . nz But its more fun in the country waiting for the pages to load . Theres the clear air and the sound of livestock to take your mind off it . Why have internet at all?

>they wont part with the cash for a satellite confection,
eh? So farmers have something in common with city folk . Shock Horror!!!!!

>they don't use it much anyway (usually just the odd e-mail),
All farmers go to bed at 6pm so they can be up for the milking . The internet is far to frivolous and intellectual for the simple country folk <gulp>

> and d . the equipment they are using is SOOO slow that it is actually
the problem NOT the phone lines,
Quick, send a PCCompany rep to every small town in NZ to replace the huge numbers of 486's still in use in almost all the farm houses Someone could make a killing

>it only takes about 15 people to want broadband in an area for telecom to put it in to the exchange for free .
Not in the Dunedin suburb I live in
