2003-02-25 02:07:00 | I have the distinction of owning a shining example of processing power and speed namely, the right regal Cyrix 3 at the blistering clock speed of 700mhz. Infact I'd swear I can hear an Abacus clicking away inside my case at a speed that would make a chinease mathematician... have to use both hands to add as fast! I'm absolutely amazed by the impressive 17.1 fps that the Quake3 demo returns on this machine. But seriously, a chip is a chip when its made by the big players and Pentium or amd (celeron even) If anyone has an amd or pentium Cpu they despise for its brandname, I will gladly trade you my Cyrix3 chip (actually ive decided to rename it the cyril 193 Cpu as this really sounds more appropriate)

2003-02-25 02:41:00 | the cyrix's where never desighned for games. they do basic stuff ok (you don't need a ghz to browse the web) and they run COOL. you can run them fanless. via as got them up to 1ghz tho there are not easly found here in NZ. for cheap comact cases they work ok, just don't try playing games with it. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-02-25 03:02:00 | I agree it is ok processor for very basic tasks, and I always have been one to support the underdog, but not when it is a sub-standard product. You really have to ask questions when my 500mhz AMD k6 out performs a processor that clocks in at 200mhz faster in every benchmark (nearly 40% improvement in fps with quake 3) I do admit i probably drive ol' uncle cyril a bit hard for its intended purpose, I guess it byer be-aware that clock speed means squat if a cpu is packing fewer transistors.Silly me!

Because they're cooler (as in temperature) they can also then be quieter. They're find for word processing, web browsing, email and small tasks like that. Or for being an mp3/ogg box. Not too sure on how well they'd do being a DivX box. |

2003-02-25 04:03:00 | I haven't heard much of Cyrix for ages, apart from when they made them change the company name in Eraser to Cyrez because it was Cyrex and too close for comfort. robo.

2003-02-25 10:42:00 | Hey man I still have an Amiga A4000 at 25Mhz and it still creams many of these Windows programs for speed and multitasking. There was a real multitasking O/S.
