123480 2003-02-24 05:08:00 Recently i built a new system from parts bought from ETC Computers in MT Eden Auckland.
Unfortunately the motherboard failed after a few hours of use.

I took it into them to sort out, first off they tried to resolve the issue there and then but it wasn't possible. They told me to come back the next day, When I rung they explained to me that the motherboard was faulty but couldn't replace it as they were out of stock.
They then suggested that they could give me a temporary motherboard until the new m/boards arrived.
Then when the m/boards came in they took out there temporary one and installed the replacement. I only had to leave the comptuer with them for 3 hours!

Personally I think this is excellent service and they have reasonably low prices.

When I lived in Christchurch if you had a warranty claim you could expect your computer to be out for a week or two, but ETC minimised the down time.

Top work.

123481 2003-02-24 05:28:00 I have had great service from ETC Computers as well.

I purchased my new Seagate Baraccuda IV from their shop. It started to sprout errors about 8 weeks later, so I emailed them at 9 pm on a Sunday and got a reply half an hour later, asking me to return the drive for instant replacement.

I had a particulary bad run with that brand (?faulty lot) of hard drives and ended up having the drive replaced under warranty 3 times over a 4 month period. On my last visit to the shop, they gave me a Maxtor hard drive instead as replacement.

They were always courteous to me even after returning so many dead drives. As Roofus says, great service.

I'm also looking forward to making a purchase with them, since they are offering prices that match some of the CHEAPEST companies. Overall, I think their service is great so far. Still waiting for a quote though....

Calm down sy :-)

Do you mean, what was wrong with my Seagate drives? I don't know what went wrong - I can only suspect a faulty batch lot. Other people have Seagates with no such problems.

Jen :-)

That my hard drives were bad? With Scandisk and Nortons Disk Doctor after a system freeze/BSOD. One drive started to develop bad sectors over a two day period until the pc was rendered unbootable, another bit the dust during windows installation (lasted 1/2 hour), the third went down in a blaze of glory after physical bad sectors were detected right where the system files lived.

All in all it is good reminder to always back up your system.

123486 2003-02-25 08:10:00 A bit dissappointed. After seeing this post, I thought I was going to get the computer when they replied to my e-mail. But, I replied saying they can do $1050 incl. GST for parts, but then will charge another $40 for installation. What the heck?

Most people do it for free! Some even offer system discounts... geez. They told me that they'll match all prices, but now only 'if they can'. And now, installation price too!?

I'll see what they say.....
