123933 2003-02-25 23:09:00 This is probably a regular question, but I searched the list and didn't find
any problems similar so am asking here.

I have an old, but perfectly adequate 233 PII (PCDirect) with 4 gig HD and 320 Mb
memory & Win98. HD is 2.47Gb full and 979Mb free in the one partition I
am working in.

Righto, I get a "Hard disk drive full" error message after working with
Fireworks and Dreamweaver after a while and are prompted to do a 'disk
cleanup when saving some graphics, although I have twice the 'free
space' that I normally work with and using multiple image editors in the
past has not caused this problem, although it was some time ago.

So, what is causing this false error prompt, and how do I correct it?
I have a sneaky feeling that it is something to do with the bios or FSB, or
some setting like that. its not a terminal problem, just annoying, but any
ideas appreciated

123934 2003-02-25 23:17:00 Try a defrag. Lots of modern programmes want lots of emmeory. If there isn't "lots" (and 384 MB isn't really lots), it will need to use disk space. If your free disk is fragmented, there might not be a big enough area. There used to be tricks like opening a file and reserving half the free space. If there wasn't that much contiguous space, you got such a message. There is no such thing as a new bug; they keep being reinvented. Graham L (2)

I'll try that.
Back to basics makes sense really as I have been down to only 50mb free space in the past, so there is probably crap everywhere!

123936 2003-02-25 23:28:00 So you have just the one partition on your harddrive?

If not, it's probably complaining about your main partition lacking space for a system cache. If windows detects that any harddrive partition is low in space, it will let you know.

Try running scandisk to fix any small errors that may be causing this. Sometimes free space can be mis-reported, and scanning will fix this.

A system monitoring tool that I have occasionally thinks that my C: drive is running low, even though it still has 30% space free. So you're not alone!
