2003-03-01 01:41:00 | Great to hear you have it all sorted out now Steve :D I suspected your BIOS version was a wee bit different to mine (Award vers), but I knew you would follow your nose and figure it out to make the necessary changes. :-) >>To finally clarify things, here is one more question: >Since I now can make bootalbe CDs with a Ghost image of my hard >drive, I can assume that if the hard drive has a melt down, or I get a >new hard drive, have to reformat or whatever, I can then insert the >Ghosted image CD and the computer will find the Ghost DOS screen so >that the image can be reinstalled. Correct? Yes, that is all correct. Having suffered several complete hard drive failures recently, this is how I have been restoring my PC, by putting the image straight back onto the brand new empty hard drive. The PC is then back to normal (or the stage at which the image was created) and ready to go again. I think Ghost is a fantastic program (apart from its Manual instructions). You can restore your PC within 20 mins or so. You don't have to go through Windows installation, all those Windows update, drivers, program installations and their updates and loading back all your personal files. I try to create a new image every month now so I always have a recent version handy. I actually save my images onto a second hard drive as my image currently requires spanning three CD's each time. I don't use Roxio GoBack from Norton SystemWorks as I have System Restore which is part of WinME, and I don't use RegTrack either - so I can't advise you on these programs. Cheers Jen :-)

2003-03-02 00:19:00 | Hello Jen, When you do an Integrity Check on a Ghost CD image, should there be a final message saying "Passed Integrity Check" or other such confirmation? I have made a number of CDs so far, at various stages of adding programs. Integrity Checks have been made but at the end of the check, the screen automatically closes and Windows reboots as normal. No confirmation message appears. Maybe a message only appears if there is an error? Thanks, Steve_L

2003-03-02 00:21:00 | Hello Susan, Just in case you have an automatic email message for replies to your posts, I thought I would pop up and say Thanks - all is OK now. .....except I am wondering about the Integrity Checks (see below). Cheers, Steve_L

2003-03-02 01:25:00 | > When you do an Integrity Check on a Ghost CD image, > should there be a final message saying "Passed > Integrity Check" or other such confirmation? As you mention, after DOS Ghost has finished verifying the image it boots straight back into Windows without any "Passed" comments. What you need to do, is go into NSW > Nortons Ghost > Ghost Basic > View Log. Here you can see the task logs of Ghost. Under Tasks you should see "Integrity Check", the date/time and "Success". I haven't had an image fail the integrity check yet, so I don't know if you are told this failed information during the DOS check or only by checking the logs. That fact that none of my images have failed so far, does not stop me continuing to perform intergrity checks on them each time. There is an extensive .pdf Ghost Manual on the NSW disk that you may find helpful - it is more extensive that the printed version. To access this file, insert your NSW disk and click on Browse CD > Manual > Ghost > and then open the manual.pdf file. I have saved mine onto my hard drive for easy future reference. Cheers Jen

2003-03-02 02:19:00 | Hi Jen After watching this marathon effort slowly work its way to success, I will now abandon my DOS Ghost 2001 and start using the 2003 version that came with NSW :D All I have to do is get my CD writer up and running. There is just one piece of advice I will add to this fine effort, and that is, print out a hard copy of the index to the PDF manual. Firstly it saves heaps of time as you can se the page number you want and go straight to it in Acrobat, and secondly, the additional information in the index will help you to see options that you were not previously aware of. I do this for all PDF manuals and slip the pages into a Clearfile folder. It is amazing how much more you can learn if you have a comprehensive manual index on paper. Cheers Billy 8-{) :D

2003-03-02 04:19:00 | Steve: Very pleased to hear of your success. Good one. :-) Jen: Well done! You did a grand job on this one. Do you think you could help me get my Ghost working now? :p :D Billy: That is a good idea, printing out the index. I don't always need to print all the info in a .pdf file but having a copy of the index would be very handy. Thanks for sharing that. :-)

2003-03-02 17:54:00 | Hello Folks, Thanks for the pdf file suggestion, Billy. Great idea. I have used this in another program and going straight for the page using the index is very convenient. I assumed that there was no pdf manual for Ghost within NSW. Susan (or was it Jen?), I went into the Log File and :) all lines = SUCCESS....! Thanks again for the great assistance given here. PF1 is currently my favourite activity on the Net! ;-) Cheers, Steve_L
