124088 2003-02-28 13:36:00 bugger back so soon, were it says
"darts that is no good at all for you . "

I good the a & r round the wrong way and should read
"drats that is no good at all for you . "

A Plan for the Improvement of English Spelling
(from Mark Twain)

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s"and likewise "x"would no longer be part of the alphabet . The only kase in which "c"would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later . Year 2 might reform "w"spelling, so that "which"and "one"would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y"replasing it with "i"and Iear 4 might fiks the "g/j" anomali wonse and for all . Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants . Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c","y"and "x"-- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch","sh"and "th"rispektivli . Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld .

Disclaimer: My mind is so fragmented by random excursions into a wilderness of abstractions and incipient ideas that the practical purposes of the moment are often submerged in my consciousness and I often don't know what I'm doing .

I seem to remember having a teacher called Mr Twain, he tawt me 2 spel reel gud a! :D

Everybody:

Just be REAL careful when you fix that mains equipment .
Most of us would know of someone who has died as a result of beleiving they knew what they were doing . I knew someone a long long time ago who was red/green colorblind . He had a problem with 2 peices of equipment, one that worked, another that didn't even though all the wires were in and everything . Can you guess what happened when he grabbed both metal cases at the same time and why?

Clue: red=phase green=earth

124090 2003-02-28 20:29:00 Thought that sounded familiar, unfortunately i think the attribute to Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) is incorrect
Try Here (www.ojohaven.com) for an explanation of who wrote it really.
I may have to make a trip to Dunners one of these days, Gotta fix the car up, as the old Ten speed wont make it up those things called hills (sorry no hills in Invers)
Thanks all

I take it that an internal inspection did not identify any obvious damage.

Cheers

P.S. E.ric: Dontcha gotta laugh at the claims made for capacitors
on the Vacuum Tube Valley web site? Strange that only a tiny segment
of the Hi Fi community feel the need to pay exorbitant prices for parts
that at worst have effects that only serious instrumentation would or
could detect. Even manufacturers of critically acclaimed Hi Fi equipment
don't seem to find it necessary to go quite that far. :p

124092 2003-02-28 21:34:00 No an internal inspection found nothing, although I haven't turned on again to double check the speaker noise as I want to let any stored voltages etc dissipate before I start looking closer at the board inside and the fuses etc.
Sorry but i have always been paranoid with electrics, I used to assemble Electric fences and the odd kick off circuitry, definitely not something I enjoy

124093 2003-03-02 23:34:00 The chirping is not coming from the speakers but a component in the middle of the circuit board, (damn i can't remember the name it) trying to find error codes for monitors on the net seems to be impossible.
so anyhelp would be appreciated.

124094 2003-03-02 23:52:00 What sort of noise is it, because there are only a few things in monitors that should make a noise, and none of then "chirp" as far as I am aware...

When the monitor turns on, there should be a some clicks as the high voltages stabilize and maybe a hiss as static builds up and is dissipated, but that is about all.

Can you say which component, or even what it looks like/is?

124095 2003-03-03 00:01:00 That sounds like a driver circuit squegging on under/over voltage or overload conditions. It suggests to me that there is either a plug and socket connection that is loose, or there is a break in the PC board somewhere. It could be an overload due to a failed component but dropping the monitor shouldn't cause that to happen. Of course the failure could have occurred the firs time you switched on to see if it worked.

Needs a techie I'm afraid. :(

124096 2003-03-03 00:23:00 the component is black round and is also on electric fences (it's what makes the chirping sound) and The name escapes me at the moment, Nigel Thomson (629)
124097 2003-03-03 00:28:00 Capacitor?

Sorry dude, I think billy T is right in that it needs a techie to look at it... (or a sledgehammer!!)
