124583 2003-02-27 22:08:00 I am using Netscape ver 7 and also have used ver 4.7. My PC frequently hangs whilst using
Browser and sometimes whilst using other programs. When I shut the PC down i get the
following notices on the screen,
WIN95 RPC WMSG Window (Program not responding)
after I close shut that down i then get
Explorer message saying You have performed and illegal operation.
I have tried to find out what RPC means and had various explanations. I am not using the
PC in a networked environment. This has been bugging me for about 6 months and was not
originally present prior to then. I have reloaded Windows without success and removed all
software from the PC and still without success. I suspect it is an incorrect setting that has
accidently been clicked somewhere but i have not been able to locate it.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated
Thanking you
Brian

124585 2003-02-28 07:11:00 Thank you Merlin, that has solved the RPC Message appearing. But i still have
the problem that Explorer comes up saying I have performed an illegal operation when shutting down. This happens even if I boot the PC up and then go to shut it down so soon as it has loaded, without using any programes or going on the Internet.
Thank you

124587 2003-02-28 09:37:00 Check device manager for any problems after startup
Could be caused from there

Try safe mode - Press F8 when booting. See if the problem appears.
Could be a device driver problem

Try anti-trojan and antivirus software - may work - may not.
Something may be running in the background or has been loaded at startup.

Reformat and install.
See if the problem reappears after each piece of software is installed. Start with DCOM, video drivers, sound, modem before other appz.
