124529 2003-02-27 20:24:00 Whats the name of the new home page as some do come with uninstallers.

Bearing in mind that you have downlaoded something off the net and it has loaded it self I would also look at the following.

Go Start > Run > type in msconfig > press enter > go to the Startup Tab > view all the programs that are ticked to load and run in the background > untick everything that is not needed including items you could access from a short cut > Apply/OK and restart the computer.

To see which programs are needed and what they do check either of the two following links.

www.answersthatwork.com

www.pacs-portal.co.uk

On the first link change the _m to which ever letter you want to look up.

If he runs Ad-Aware there shouldn't be any need to play around with the registry. Anything that has hijacked the home page and installed a toolbar (i.e. Hotbar) will get removed completely from the system (including any registry entries) when AA is run (provided it is detected).

124532 2003-02-27 20:47:00 At this hour of morning I am usually not my fastest...............yes, spybot and or adaware would also be useful.

It is interesting to note though all the same what does crop up in the msconfig.

124533 2003-02-27 20:56:00 With most toolbars you can simply hit View, Toolbars, and un-tick the toolbar name.

However, some are persistant and insist on coming back to haunt you :(

Yeah, it can be interesting, but registry editing is probably not the best thing to suggest to someone when you are not sure of their computer experience. If they know what they are doing, sure - but otherwise, trust AdAware to do all the hard work! B-)

124535 2003-02-27 21:24:00 Thanks guys, will try to find some ad aware software. Damn thng seems to have done it to my netscapre as well. Opera seems unaffected tho.

Ill leave msconfig for the pros :) I have System Mechanic anyway and that does a good job.

Thanks again and yes this is very annoying as it does continue to come back , now with another bar at the bottom hjat takes up half the damn screen :(
