2003-02-27 08:44:00 I am running W98 and IE5.50 and I find this a very useful feature, however I suspect a Security related software app I recently downloaded has somehow disabled this feature. When log on boxes pop up and I enter my user name and password Windows offers to remember the passwords which I duly tick, subsequent visits show that the info has not been retained and up pops the Windows box again, ( I have all the boxes ticked in the Auto Complete Settings panel) any suggestions, solutions etc would be appreciated, TIA. jimjam (3259)
2003-02-27 08:53:00 Sounds like a setting in the security app you installed, check the options in that. agent (30)
2003-02-27 08:58:00 Big problem, I did not like the app so I uninstalled it, Auto Complete problem only appeared after that. jimjam (3259)
2003-02-27 09:07:00 Try disabling all auto-complete, including clearing forms and passwords. Close all IE windows, just to be sure, then open one again, turn on auto-complete, and test it out somewhere. agent (30)
2003-02-27 09:22:00 Have tried that, clicking on Clear Forms or Clear Passwords causes the computer to freeze, have to resort to Ctrl Alt Delete. ( I knew this was going to be a curly one) jimjam (3259)
2003-02-27 09:34:00 Try opening the Internet Options control panel, go to the Advanced tab, and scroll down to the sub-section 'HTTP 1.1 settings'. Look above that for a setting called "Use inline AutoComplete". Uncheck it, close down IE, then go back to the settings, and turn it back on. Try combining this with the options in the Content tab if that fails. agent (30)
2003-02-27 09:49:00 Thanks for the suggestion Agent, unfortunately did not work, I suspect a Registry setting has been altered or tampered with. jimjam (3259)
2003-02-27 10:10:00 Not sure if it'll be any help, but located (in regedit.exe, the registry), under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main' are settings called 'FormSuggest Passwords', 'FormSuggest PW Ask', 'Use FormSuggest', and under the same path, except 'IntelliForms' instead of 'Main', is 'AskUser'. After saving the whole Internet Explorer registry information (File - Export when the Internet Explorer tree is selected), change (double click on to do so) 'AskUser' to '1' (without the inverted commas), and the 'Use Form...' and 'FormSuggest...' fields to 'yes'. See if this helps.

Check out http://www.winguides.com, they have a nifty little downloadable help file called the Windows Registry Guide, has heaps of settings you can change, like TweakUI only better, and you do everything via the registry. The only result I could find there for auto complete was for use in Windows Explorer, not IE though.
