125029 2003-03-02 07:54:00 I could once play music on my CD-ROM. It works fine with your PC free CD's and even plays the tunes on them, but not my music only CD's. A friend tells me that I lack a driver and he has been unable to locate one for me. Please can anyone help, Colobus. Colobus (3272)
125030 2003-03-02 08:02:00 what music player do you use?

you may not have the analog leads so you will need to play it digitally.

125031 2003-03-03 08:11:00 Thanks for your reply, I use Windows Media Player and get all the graphics, but no sound; as I said my speakers work.
I'm a Newby, and my friend (who may or may not be a newby{but dont tell him I said so}) says I've no driver and he can not find one for me.
Thanks again; Colobus.

125033 2003-03-03 09:04:00 also what type of file are you trying to play
maybe a codec is missing but window media play should hopefully take care of that

or in sound control the wav output is on mute or turned down
..you already checked that already...right

125034 2003-03-05 08:27:00 Tweak and Heni thanks for your replies, music did work till I fiddled with password - 2nd hand comp: bought when I knew even less than I now know. A good friend fixed it, dont know how but cleared everything and reinstalled XP pro which I had origonally(but no EULA). He says he can not find a driver, but CD's from magazines work fine and radio also works. CD-rom's are advertised at around $30, and I'm wondering if this might be a fairly cheap way around my problem. Colobus (3272)
125035 2003-03-05 08:54:00 the 2 ways music cd's are played in a pc is... analog, which requires an audio cable from cdrom to sound card. in volume contol cd input must not be muted (or volume turned down). 2nd way is digitally. you need a player set to digital extraction and an aspi driver. tweak'e (174)
125036 2003-03-07 08:24:00 I agree with tweak'e. It's a matter of simply taking the cover off the PC, and seeing if there's a thin cable going from the back of the CD drive to the soundcard. If it isn't there, then you need to get one (to play it analogly -if that word exists). somebody (208)
125037 2003-03-07 08:40:00 You chaps know more than I do,but surely if the thing has worked b4 and he hasn' taken anything off, like wires, how can it be he has to go looking for wires? Thomas (1820)
125038 2003-03-07 09:19:00 Not that i use XP but in my system I would go to the media rack which is all the volume controls for the system and make sure all the volume sliders are at there peak and none are muted. Like I say this is for win 98 but i'm sure that xp has a similar setup off the start menu somewhere.

hope this helps
