124927 2003-03-02 00:19:00 Hi

I have read about memory tweaks and other useful tweaks to help preformance. I have found the most useful to be a tweak which reduces use of virtual memory. Before you modify any files please back them up first.

Find system.ini (c:\windows) and add the following line under [386Enh]

ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

This will prevent windows using the swap file until the RAM is full. For those of you running 128mb or under of RAM this may not be such a good idea.

I have a PIII 733 with 512Mb of SDRAM and i have seen a preformance boost in most tasks. I run Cacheman as well to further boost memory usage and 'unload' programs properly once the have been cloesd.

One way of reducing the amount of memory used on startup by other programs is to disable them in msconfig. simple click Start > Run and type msconfig. I have disabled most of the programs i dont need e.g MSN, Disc Detector, NvCplDeamon, LoadQM, etc.

I hope this helps

can be handy but i havn't really found it that usefull. tend to get glitches with it. normally windows dosn't fill up all the ram so when it needs to load something into ram it has some spare room for it. if the ram is full it then has to swap it out to virtual memory first before it can load it into ram. basicly it has to do a double swap hence the bit of a glitch. however it all depends on the system. if it works for you sweet :)

no need to have cacheman running all the time unless you need to run the memory recovery bit which is not needed unless you are dealing with buggy programs (eg alphas and some betas).
