124903 2003-03-01 22:41:00 I am looking to buy a new computer (P4, 2.4; 512 mb ddr ram) and am wondering if winxp home edition is a good enough operating system or if I should just fork out for winxp pro edition. The computers main use will be for games and graphical applications.

My friend has had constant problems with it frequently freezing during Internet explorer use (Opening multiple windows will always freeze it) and crashing randomly during gaming. His specs are more than adequate so is this normal for winxp home?

Anyones advice/opinions would be welcomed

I went for XP Pro, but XP Home should be fine for what you want to do - chances are you won't ever need to use the extra features in XP Pro .

This is not normal for XP - it sounds like there's either a setup problem somewhere, or perhaps a problem with the computer itself . I suggest either your friend posts for help here, or gets the computer checked out at the place he bought it .

124905 2003-03-02 05:18:00 I second that.

Pro doesnt have terribly many extra features, and at its root, its still the same code, only a few little extras, so I dont think any extra stability will be gained by choosing 'Pro'.

As for your friend, did he install it himself or buy a PC with it installed already?
