124795 2003-03-01 03:30:00 Hi,

I'm trying to get a headset mic (Cosonic Stereo Dynamic Headphones with Mic - from Warehouse Stationary) to work through a PA system Sound Mixer.

I know that these mics are designed to be used with computers, but I want to get one working through our PA.

Theoretically it should work (though it doesn't), as the computer's soundcard gives +20db of gain, while the mixer can give up to +60db.

Does anyone know how I can make this work?

124796 2003-03-01 03:56:00 These mics are of the "electret" type and need a dc supply of a few volts which is provided by a sound card, have a look at this site:

124799 2003-03-01 06:37:00 What the article boils down to is that a dc voltage of +5v has to be applied to the middle connection of the stereo plug via a 2.2Kohm resistor, 0v to the inner ground connector, and the audio is taken out from the tip of the plug through a 10uF capacitor so as to isolate other circuitry from the bias voltage. 124801 2003-03-01 11:35:00 I asked a similar question a couple of months ago and some one suggested I look at this link www.shure.com

Also the battery powered preamp that comes with Dick Smith Microphone c1533 also makes computer haedset mics work with a pa amp. Not sure if you can buy the preamp by itself.

Cheers,
Andrew
