125222 2003-03-03 08:37:00 Windows XP Automatic Updates.

Do I need them?...it's just that they are reeeeeaaaaallly annoying when I am playing online games and they start downloading 1/2 way through the game and I start getting laaaaaaaaaaaaaaag...

Is there a way of stopping them form starting (if you know wat I mean). I know you can pause them once they have started, but that means I have to exit my game to do that because they only seem to start after I have been online for a few minutes.

Any Ideas?...Thanks.

125223 2003-03-03 08:42:00 You have various options if you go to ..start-settings-system-automatic updates. Don't want to be bothered.. Go start-settings-administration tools-services. By right clicking on automatic updates and choosing manual , you can choose when to update. Good idea to do occasionaly as M$ puts out security updates. Pheonix (280)
125224 2003-03-03 08:53:00 Yes it is suggest that you do need those windows update especially the Critical Updates and Service Packs.

If you go to the "Control Panel" then click on "Automatic Updates"
Then choose the 2nd button: "Notify me before downloading any updates and notify me again when they are ready to be installed."

What OS are you running?? (If your using XP you need most of the Critical Updates and SP 1)

If you running win ME I can tell you what update’s you need if that helps

Hope this helps

125225 2003-03-03 09:00:00 I'm running XP and I installed SP1 a while ago but I uninstalled it again because it slowed my computer down to a crawl... promethius (1998)
125226 2003-03-03 09:05:00 I went to control panel but there was no automatic updates category in there?...so I went to Administrative tools > services, but I cant do the "Notify me before downloading any updates and notify me again when they are ready to be installed." thing. I'm running winxp home (if that helps). promethius (1998)

125229 2003-03-03 12:59:00 How do I find if SP1 is already installed with my computer b4 I try downloading it? Ladybug (3129)
125230 2003-03-03 19:01:00 Right-click My Computer on the start menu (or desktop if enabled). Choose Properties, if service pack 1 is installed it will say so on the General Tab sgtchopper (3276)
