125167 2003-03-03 00:43:00 I'm a 20 year old living in Foxton who is desperately in need of employment. I will do anything (within obvious reason) that is required to get myself off the Unemployment Benefit. If anyone out there can help me, a reply to this topic would be greatly appreciated. Travel is not an issue, but I won't move house to get work.

Please help a young soul...

125168 2003-03-03 02:32:00 Hey, Welcome to the club, Im looking for a job too....

Ive been using Seek.co.nz, NZJobs.co.nz, and nzherald.co.nz's job sections.

Otherwise, Ive simply prepared a CV, grabbed the local phone book, and gone thru in the computing section, calling up,

Hi, This is my name, I'm looking for a job in IT, would you like me to send you my CV.

I did this on thursday and it turned up a few businesses who happened to be looking for a new employee within the next two weeks and will get back to me by the end of the week.

Check the PF1 archives, coz I can specifically remember this Q. being asked twice before, maybe more :-)

Cheers

125170 2003-03-03 05:50:00 Hiya guys.

I just got a fulltime job through WINZ. I won't tell you what it is, cause you will probably get jealous LOL.

Heres the deal. If you are collecting the benefit from WINZ, make an appointment to see your Case Manager ASAP. Tell him/her you are sick of being on the dole, and want to go on Work-Track. Work Track is a really interesting course that goes for 5 mornings over 2 weeks. Once yoiu are on it, WINZ is virtually obligated to find you a job - they will provide you with a set of really good resource materials and a FREE professionally written CV, and all the help you could possibly want.

I was sceptical before I went, but got full-time employment at the end plus 3 other job offers.

Good luck in your search for work Guys.

125171 2003-03-03 05:54:00 Hmmmm....

Will it work for me.

My problem is I'm over 60 yrs old.

WINZ won't help there I don't think. THEY think I should be retired!! :)

125173 2003-03-03 09:05:00 Also, I'm looking for a job as well. :)

I am a 18 year old ex student (I have just finch college last year)

Are they any good places I can go and look for work.

I know about Seek.co.nz, netcheck.co.nz, NZJobs.co.nz, the nzherald.co.nz's job sections.

I am a website designer/Development as well, (if any one is looking for a website, post a message here.)

125174 2003-03-03 10:23:00 It might be worth going and talking to them again.

I DO ( in fact ) have a job.

Just not the sort I want. I drive a truck.

In my spare time I build computers and am now sitting for NZCC Levels 2 and 3.

I'd prefer to sit in an office. It wouldn't go up and down so much!!!

;)

125175 2003-03-03 11:04:00 But if you are not over 65 you are not ready for the butchers block yet. mikebartnz (21)

That method seems to work quite well; I arrived in Auckland 3 weeks ago, (am at AUT studying Electrotechnology), and one thursday I simply rang up Gamma Computers, and 10 minutes later I had a job. Simple as that, of course the fact that they knew me quite well (who wouldn't with the number of faulty HDD's I've sent through them in the last year) played a big role in me getting a job in 10 minutes.

In the IT industry it basically seems to be contacts, well that's my $0.02 worth anyway :D

Cheers
