Dear Rob Clarke
Using Windows ME, 128mb Ram, 233 Hz.

I am trying to arrange, conveniently, for the desktop icon text to be transparent, and colour changeable.

The operation is successful, using program "Transparent" at start-up, but the colour change has to be done through the standard desktop "Properties > appearance" - rather clumsy.

Other programs seem promising, nicely programmed, e.g., "Invisible", "Iconoid", "Transtext", but all after a colour change revert to the original colour, sometimes start a flashing routine.

The best I have found, and the simplest, is called "Colorize" from DESKTOP.INC.RU. But its available colours are drab; I have emailed the author to enquire about a patch for this one. It works well.

Perhaps WinME has some special glitches in this area; your advice will be appreciated.

Try searching for the dates 19/10/02 and 20/10/02, and with a search heading of Desktrans.

You will find the search button at the top of this page to the right of the Press F1 site logo.

Cheers. :)
