125518 2003-03-04 09:56:00 I am just wonding how to format my C:\ partition (I have three C, D, E) of my hard drive becuase there is alot of junk and undeletable crap on there. I have person documents on the D drive and programs on the E (C is basically windows and office).

A) How do I format ONLY the C partition in XP (pro) because I get a wraning saying stuff about utilities and all that.

B) How do I make sure that the programs on the third partition will still work (I don't have all the disc's and file).

Thanks

James

You can't just format C... if you format C: you will need to reinstall Windows and Office, and this can take some time.

You can't be sure that they'll all work. If you wipe C: the chances are you will also wipe some necessary files that those programs need. If those programs haven't made any registry changes, or put key files on C: then possibly they'll work afterwards, but don't hold your breath.

To format C: and reinstall Windows XP, boot from your XP CD, and during the installation it'll give you the option of formatting the drive. Just be careful that you format the correct drive :) (I speak from experience :D)

You can't do it from within Windows

125523 2003-03-05 09:20:00 Providing the C drive is formatted FAT
Start from a startup/boot disk or Shutdown and choose restart in DOS

Type FORMAT C: at the DOS command prompt and press enter

Voila mes infant.
