125477 2003-03-04 06:30:00 Hi,
My friend has just bought a second hand computer with Win 95 & an Olivetti JP 170 Printer.
We went to add the Printer to the computer and the JP 170 did not show up in the drop down box there were all sorts of other JP models though. Can we choose the JP 150 option?
Is Olivetti quite a good printer & easy to get cartridges for? She only paid $5 for it & it looks in good condition but have to install it first to see how well, or not, it goes.

125478 2003-03-04 07:14:00 That's a pretty old printer Pauline, I can't remeber when Olivetti last had printers on the NZ market. Ink cartridges might be a bit hard to find too. What looks like a compatible model is available for about $36 Here (www.globalpc.co.nz)

I wouldn't invest too much time or money on that one, but if you can get it going, well and good. You could try installing the 150 driver and see if it works, or do a Google search for a driver using the model number you have.

Cheers

125479 2003-03-04 10:25:00 Thanks for that Billy,
The printer was hard to age as it is in very good condition. Looks brand new.
I have been to Google & that's how I found the closest driver number & not the exact number.
I found a site in Auckland & have emailed to them to see if they know of somewhere in Chch that might have stocks of cartridges.

125480 2003-03-04 18:56:00 As a matter of interest, the JP 170 is listed in the printers in Windows 98SE. Terry Porritt (14)

Sorry Pauline, that link didn't carry over the on-screen information. Type Olivetti in the search box (lower left) and the correct cartridge comes up at $35 incl GST. The same type fits the 150 & 170 models apparently.

The biggest risk is that you might invest that much money and find that the printer doesn't work. If it has been out of use for some time there may be dried up ink in the printheads. Does it have an empty cartridge, or no cartridge at all?

125482 2003-03-05 01:07:00 I found the driver with google.:D Try this one (www.printer-drivers.com).

Can you provoke a self test by holding the paperfeed button while turning it on? I pretty well assume a printer I can't test without a connected computer doesn't work. :D That excludes "Win printers", which are in the same category as Winmodems --- losers. ]:)

125483 2003-03-05 04:21:00 Graham L,
When the printer is plugged into power the light goes on & the cartridge in there slides across so I think that might be a good sign.
Tomorrow we will have a go at installing it.
I have found a place here in Chch that has cartridges but you have to buy them in two's.
Today was tied up with getting internet connection & finally got that sorted.

Thanks for the replies.
Pauline.
