125739 2003-03-06 01:16:00 Another question:

Is the biz address one of the addresses owned by the previous owner on a personal account? If so it may just be a simple matter of orginising that you pickup that address during a transitional period. This gives time for your client base to change their records.

Being with paradise i have four @paradise.net.nz addresses, each with seperate mailboxes.
One is my_better_halfs_address@paradise.net.nz, (not a real address) which is purely for her to pick up on the other side of the island, even though her ISP is "snap.net.nz"
You may find your self on a similar arrangement to her end of our arrangement. I know its a little messy, but this is what we get for using addresses that are dependant on a domain that we don't own :(

125740 2003-03-06 01:42:00 Basically all you need to do is to get the previous owner of the email address to go to their ISP and get them to redirect it it (forward) to your own address. This is of course assuming that the owner of the address is happy to do that.

If the email account is with Xtra, that address (if it's their original username) won't be released, even if the old owner cancels his account. However most ISP's will allow the old address to be taken over by someone else if the old owner has cancelled their account.

Your best option in the long term, is as mentioned by others here, to register a domain name for yourself. Someone like www.freeparking

125741 2003-03-06 03:13:00 ok to answer all your questions,

its a motel so um dunno how to change the clients email address book thing......lol
regular users could be notified i guess....?
the email address is the business one. with clear.net
my personal email is with xtra. pure an simple because they were the only one who answered the phone when trying to get on the net, trying to get an ISP provider( tried heaps, over 25 mins on one try, on hold! ) and they gave me free conection and first month free use as i am a student.

this will change dramatically once we move.... to business location.....
anyone for a holiday? lol
but i like the idea of haveing the domain thing .....and cause you can have more than one email address means we could seperate the incomings to business / private ? yes

thanks everybody

125742 2003-03-06 04:55:00 You can have anything@yourdomain.co.nz I often make up a disposible addresses for public posting, and lose them once i get spam on them.
I would recomend registering yor own domain and running the exsisting system for a couple of months, with your new address built into letterheads and email signitures so people get the idea.
Expect some people to never get the idea.
I still had people trying to email me at pugwash@ihug.co.nz long after i ditched IHUG and got my own domain.

125748 2003-03-07 02:49:00 LOL Good question. I have an Internet biz - creating and hosting websites. You mentioned before something about anyone wanting a short holiday, or something along those lines. i thought maybe I could set you up with a domain name, email @ your domain, explain all the in's and outs, and set up a web site for your biz, in exchange for a weekend break for me and my Fiancee. Nothing dodgy whatsoever - I have a great reputation amongst my customers! :) Greg S (201)
