125418 2003-03-04 04:03:00 I have read a bit about it, so I decided to look at this.
I turned some of the start up things off, but there were some I didnt know what they where.

Does anyone know what nwiz.exe/install is? Do i need it running?

Same with qttask.

After doing this, it switches over to selective startup.

Is that all right?

Probably dumb questions, but i have never done this before.

Thanks.

125419 2003-03-04 04:08:00 QTTask is Quicktime Taskbar manager, it just sits in your systray keeping watch of file associations etc, it can go :-)

NWiz is nVidia Wizard or some sort AFAIK, I wouldnt think you'd need it as its been removed on my PC's :-)

Unless... It may be Norton AV... doubt it though.

If you've got an nVidia card, but dont use Norton AV, then kill it too.. :-)

125420 2003-03-04 04:08:00 Nwiz.exe:Associated with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to immensely
improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations. However, this isn't necessary
for the operation of your system

qttask:System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards. Not required

Just tick the box to not show Selective startup again. This is normal.

125421 2003-03-04 04:10:00 Ah, BTW - Selective startup is normal, and if anything appears on login, you can just hit "Dont remiond me again". Selective stratup simply means that you've stopped something from loading, nothing to worry about :D

Cheers

125422 2003-03-04 04:12:00 Ah.. So it is nVidia.. thought so :-)

Im sure Id seen it on my PC somewhere, but I thought that norton used a similar name. There should be a path column if you're worried about anything else, you can check the location of the file thats being loaded and decide for yourself!

125424 2003-03-18 11:29:00 A good site to bookmark for future reference is here (www.pacs-portal.co.uk)

Handy for those irregular cleanups.

125426 2003-03-30 04:28:00 If you don't want to be using the selective startup with msconfig, and you want to go back to normal windows start ups....

open msconfig....find the offending thing you dont want starting up with windows....then beside that it has the directory it is stored in the registry....

goto run
type in regedit :enter
then navigate to that place in the registry where the offending thing is...then just simply hit delete and its gone :)
