125949 2003-03-06 08:57:00 I have Windows Me and after installing all my applications on a new computer cannot get my Canon Canoscan FB656U scanner to scan in colour in any photo software (Photoshop Elements, VuePro and Imaging) but greyscale and b/w work fine. Attempting to do a preview in colour brings up an error message instructing me to install scanner driver. I have re-installed the driver from the installation disc with no improvement. I then installed the latest driver downloaded from the Canon site with the same result.
The scanner is connected via USB. In Control Panel everything looks fine in Device Manager and the correct icon is displayed in Scanners and Cameras. Testing the scanner from this location displays that it’s working OK.
Don’t laugh, but I connected a friend’s screen (different from mine) to my computer, and scanning in colour worked perfectly every time. Re-connected my screen and the problem came back immediately. (Am I dreaming, or what?)
My screen is a Philips 107S and the correct driver is installed.
Anyone help, please?
Dave.

125950 2003-03-06 09:28:00 you've probably got a virus! jayal (1291)
125951 2003-03-06 09:34:00 Doubt it would be a virus.................

Doesn't the Philips 107s come with a program disk of its own. If you have a disk for the monitor try running that as well. May show up in device manager as being ok and probably because Windows detected it ok but I would still install any drivers off a monitor install disk as well if you have it.

125952 2003-03-07 03:39:00 You can't scan in colour when your Philips monitor is connected. You can if another monitor is connected. I believe you David. I'm starting to believe anything to do with USB devices.

It doesn't make me laugh. Words fail me. :_| X-(

USB/Windows Me/Scanners/Monitors don't work together. Wouldn't it be nice if home computers worked?

I'm doing this unhelpful posting to keep it in front of people who might know what is happening.

125953 2003-03-07 09:36:00 This believe it or not is a documented fact.

Philips 107 monitors and Canon USB scanners sometimes do not play well together
I have been down this road before.
your only option is to change your monitor type from a Philips to standard VGA or Plug and Pray model.

There has been and unlikely to be any driver upgrade to combat this issue

What the %$#^&* &@^ are they playing at?

USB is supposed to be an industry standard device interconnection system . Is it too much to expect that it might work?

125955 2003-03-08 05:53:00 sorry graham for not expressing myself clearly enough..:-

The problem exsists between the colour management profiles used by canon and the colour management used by philips monitors..In some cases when the phases of the moon are just right. This phenomenon will occur. It is not usb related.

Sorry if i confused you?:|

125956 2003-03-08 10:51:00 Thanks for your help, everyone. Have changed the monitor and all is now OK. Incidentally I e-mailed Philips (www.pcstuff.philips.com) who acknowledged receipt of my message saying that they are looking into it. So far nothing.
Regards,
Dave
