125796 2003-03-05 19:47:00 Ok, I have three partitions on my computer. I had permissions on the E: which has all my school work for this year and person information on it. I made it so that only "Blues Boy" (My user name) could only get into the driver. Then stuff happened to my computer and I reformatted the C: drive and reinstalled XP Pro. My user name is still Blues Boy but I CANT get into the driver. I am the administrator but I can't change the "security" setting tab in the hard drive options!!!! What do I do???
BTW: OS = Win XP Pro (both times). I have looked in Locial Security setting in aministrator tools but can't see any thing in there. Any help would be good. Also, reformating the E: partition is NOT an option, I need all the information on it.

125797 2003-03-05 20:36:00 You may wanna make a FAT32 partition if there's none of the otehrs are already, and boot off Knoppix on the October 2K2 PCW CD!

If you dont have it, you could try writing a really nice letter to IDG, or check out NZ_Liam's Linux Shop!

Let me guess - the drive was formatted NTFS and you can't remember how you altered the access permissions.

Open My Computer

Right click the drive/folder

Select Properties

Select the Security tab

Click Advanced

Add the user (take ownership)

Give the new user Full Control

Press OK twice

How did loss of access happen? NTFS folder/file security. Either learn how to use it or don't play with what you don't understand.

Read my second reply to your previous inquiry.

How else are you supposed to learn merlin, if you dont RTFM (and there arent any books that came with my version of doze on what to do when you've formatted and lost permissions) except for trial and error.

Guess how many times Ive formatted my Linux partition on my PC??

Probably a good 15 or so in the past couple o months!!!!!

Trial and error dude B-)

125800 2003-03-05 22:19:00 Try adding a permission called 'Administrators' and give full acess. that could help.

If all else fails, get a copy of linux and install it on another partition. Linux can access fat32,ntfs partitions well. You can then copy the data you need to another partition so you can access it.
