2003-03-06 22:33:00 | Ok, I am wondering. You guy's are al saying "change the permissions". Can you change them without right clicking on the drive? Also, yes, every single drive is NTFS. (I did say that in my last post but not very well :(). I have reinstalled XP pro with exactly the same user name and password (twice now) and nothing. I am starting to lose hope. | JamesStewart (874) | |
2003-03-06 22:41:00 | ...Im still keen for the Knoppix idea. Boot into it, copy your files to a 3rd partition (You'll have to make it FAT32 sorry boyo), and when they're copied, boot back into doze, format the partition you cant get access to at the moment, copy the music back across, and then use the convert function of doze to convert your FAT32 partition back to NTFS if you really want :D For Linux-Shop, goto: www.chatf1.net.nz Click on the links to get to the linux shop, I cant remember the URL soz ;-) Cheers Chilling_Silence

2003-03-06 22:53:00 | Ok, I need a CD though. Like I said in my past post if any one out there (In Auckland though) has that boot CD, can they please ring me. (09 520 3668) or just e-mail me at blues_boy15@hotmail.com . I found somthing werid. I am (at the moment) running a sparkeling clean X Pro. BUT I got to change the label on the C: (the moment it is Locial Disk) and when I try to change it it says "You do not have sufficient rights to perform with operation". I am the only administrator (apart from the default aministrator). This is just werid. What has happened to my computer (I didn't mess around with it that much, just changed one setting so no one could look at my stuff and now no one can! :() | JamesStewart (874) | |
2003-03-06 23:00:00 | No more - you are well out of your depth! As are a few others here. Either read the section on taking ownership here (support.microsoft.com) Or spend some money with an experienced technician to do the job for you.

2003-03-06 23:18:00 | Great Merlin! But why didn't you put this up for James before now? Your first post was potentially very helpful then you (and a few others) seemed to forget all about James' problem and become more interested in less helpful dialogue. There are 25 replies to James on this post and you can count the truly constructive advice on the fingers on one hand. I will be frank and admit that his problem is well out of my depth but nonetheless, I tried to pull the thread back onto a more constructive track. I feel for the poor bugger, he's still a student and faces a deadline to get his essay back on screen. The link in your latest post may not provide the final solution, but I agree wholeheartedly with your advice to follow the MS article through or get professional help. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2003-03-06 23:24:00 | **Update** I just rang Microsfot and they said there is nothing that you can do but there is ONE possibility. Get my hands on a Windows 2000 Pro CD and boot in the recovery console. Then copy the contence to C:. But it is going to be hard to get that CD because I do not know any one who has that CD. But if I do get it, could some one please tell me "dos" controls I need to type in to copy files to a differant drive (I used to know but DOS is so long ago!!). Thank you all for your help but I dont know if I am going to this working.
