126031 2003-03-08 06:51:00 I talked to a guy in the local computer shop and he said the only reason that he could think of was that the usb took a lot of power, so a powered usb hub may work. I think ill ask nikon the reason

Thanks

126032 2003-03-08 07:55:00 Some USB devices will not work via a hub, even if that hub has its own power supply. Its all to do with the enumeration of the devices I am told.

The suggestion to buy a 2m USB extension lead, and leave it plugged into the rear USB is the cheapest. The available end can be wherever you want it, ready to plug the camera lead into.

Your existing USB devices may ba happy to share, and USB hubs are cheap. That would free up an existing motherboard USB port for the extension lead.

Front mounting USB is more to do with case design than the type of card you would need. Drive bay mounted sockets could be available or DIY, but it gets expensive.

126033 2003-03-08 09:01:00 Ive been looking at PCI usb cards, and that is about the same as a hub. WHats the internal usb port on a pci card for? superOman (745)
126034 2003-03-08 09:50:00 At a guess, its for connecting a header plug to a case mounted USB socket?

My Motherboard has no less than 6 USB 2.0 headers, which feed 4 rear motherboard mounted sockets and 2 front case mounted sockets (the case is designed with a drop-down panel at the lower front to give access)
