| 125806 | 2003-03-05 23:44:00 | I'm feeling devlish today, and Merlin is quite right :) It never ceases to amaze me that people are prepared to spend $2k or so on a computer and a strange pre-installed OS, and yet wont buy a decent book/manual that will tell them how to drive it. Even worse they commit important data to the thing with no back-up. To learn by playing around is one thing, but when you cant afford to lose your data, then thats stupid :p After all, no normal person would think of driving in a strange country without buying a road map, and finding out the road rules before driving off. |

Personally, regular backups would solve that sorta problem, but with the likes of me, I'd need to buy a DVD-Burner to backup the 8 odd gigs of data of mine, that's just not really viable burning it to CD's, unless I do it as a one off, which is why Ive got two seperate HDD's for my stuff. I guess you are right, and a quick push of F1 should have helped, but still, Merlin could have been a little nicer. We all have to start somewhere. Just out of curiousity Merlin, What do you do for a job, mentioned before? |

| 125808 | 2003-03-06 01:16:00 | OK, I do know EXACTLY how i did this. And i do have a manual on XP Pro (it HUGE!) but i sitll don't know how to rectify the situation. Here it is again though. I WAS blues boy - user name. I changed the permissions so that only I could get into the E: drive. I then formatted the C: drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro and my user name is again Blues Boy. But the permissions think I am a differant user so I can't get into the drive. I right click on the driver and go properties but the sercurity tab isn't there. I need to make the computer think: A) I am the old Blues Boy B) Just plain let me into the driver. How do I do this? |

| 125815 | 2003-03-06 02:11:00 | I'd say so if its trying to do its authentication its gonna be looking for both same username and password. Cant hurt to change your password and try now can it?! |
