125973 2003-03-06 09:38:00 Have deleted old Workbooks and now find that some of my remaining workbooks are trying to update links that no longer exist. Have looked through the 'help menu' and still cant find the answer. I have 'Workbook X' open, view the Links, then try to update them - no go. I end up with some sort of violation problem. All rather frustrating. Can anyone help?
Cheers

125975 2003-03-07 03:58:00 If the site Lucy recommends does not help (I haven't looked at it myself) I have a really neat little program that searches for links in Excel workbooks and will delete the references to old links upon request. Problem is that I can't remember where I got it from. The file name is dellinks.exe and www.microsoftexceltraining.com gives some info on the problem - look under "Phantom Links".

Actually locating the dellinks.exe program might be a bit trickier.

125976 2003-03-07 04:02:00 Do a Search on F1 for "excel links" - this has been discussed before with solutions proffered. Russell D (18)

Try this page (www.microsoftexceltraining.com).

125978 2003-03-07 04:07:00 "locating the actual dellinks.exe might be a bit trickier". Tut, Tut, whitebait.

"dellink.exe" to google.co.nz finds it instantly. :D

I am impressed with Google. It's so refreshing to see a computer application which works. :D

125979 2003-03-07 04:18:00 Google is an excellent search engine Graham, but that search term produced a link to a site written in a foreign language. It most definitely is not the place I originally got it from - I can't read Italian. ;-) whitebait (3283)
125980 2003-03-07 04:54:00 Whitebait,
As indicated to LucyL, I'm new to this but well impressed with the process. I actually tried GrahamL's idea first - like you, I cant read Italian. The idea of using Google had me 'sold' as my ISP (Paradise) uses this search engine. I followed your 'this page' link and have downloaded a bunch of stuff from there. I have also added the Homepage to my list of Favourites. Quite a fascinating site. Will have a go at the download this evening.

125981 2003-03-07 04:59:00 LucyL,
Sorry Lucy. I did actually attempt a reply to you in the first instance but appear to have messed it up. Anyway, many thanks for your efforts! I followed your link; some interseting comments. I have saved the Homepage to my Favourites. The subsequent 'add-in' was on a German site - scary process. I have downloaded the add-in, unzipped it, and subsequently 'lost' it. Will go hunting for it when I have finished posting replies to the various people who have helped.
Cheers

125982 2003-03-07 05:03:00 Thanks Russell, will give this a shot when I'm done with the replies. Still very new to all this so am still working through the possibilities and 'methodology'. It all looks rather promising.
Cheers
