126449 2003-03-07 23:09:00 There must be a cut off point when you're on a 56k dial up. There's no point having a 1 gig processor and 1 gig of Ram for example if your connection just can't feed the data to be processed fast enough anyway.
I was just wondering if there is some rule of thumb about this.

700mhz Celeron
128 megs pc 100 sd Ram
Atx Wh5 mobo onboard sound & video
10 gig HDD

........is the system at the moment and I dom't want to upgrade beyond the point of any return.

Any comments much appreciatted mark :) c

what are you asking ???

as far as internet goes a 486 will run a 56k modem.

your system is ok for net use. a bit more ram wouldn't hurt.

126451 2003-03-07 23:37:00 Thanks for that tweak'e I was just wondering when you get to the point of no return by upgrading processor and memory but being still dependent on a dial-up.

Like the dial up is a bottle neck so there's no point trying to get something much speedier than the bottle neck anyway (for net use).

Cheers mark :) c

no such thing these days. your existing pc is past the "point of no return".
basicly the modem doesn't bottle neck a pc (with the execption of winmodems and sun 300mhz pc's). net speed isn't related to pc speed.

no one buys fast expencive pc's just to surf the net.
