126371 2003-03-07 08:49:00 I don't know if any IDG people will see this but...

The main page http://www.idg.net.nz hasn't been displaying correctly in gecko based browsers for about a week.

It looks like this (homepages.paradise.net.nz) in Galeon 1.2.5, Mozilla 1.1 & 1.3a, Phoenix, and I assume Netscape 6/7. It displays correctly in Konqueror 3.1 and IE6 (of course).

126372 2003-03-07 09:40:00 Yes the same thing is happening for me as well with Mozilla 1.3b and Phoenix 0.5 on Windows XP. -=JM=- (16)
126373 2003-03-08 01:49:00 That's not "broken". That's standards compliance problems. Which end is at fault? Graham L (2)
126374 2003-03-08 06:27:00 Yes you're quite right it is due to something/someone not being compliant to the standards.

Who is not being compliant? Well there are a couple of ways to look at that. It could be MS because they have a browser which isn't all that standards compliant and web designers become lazy and just code so that it will work in IE they don't bother checking for support of other browsers because not so many people use them.

The webpage is still uncompliant but only due to MS's uncompliantness. It doesn't have a doctype specified so it's off to a bad start from the word go.

126375 2003-03-09 20:41:00 very odd.. idg.net.nz displays fine for me in IE6, Netscape 4.7 and 6.

unfortunately sometimes when our designs are passed over into our web content system they sometimes "break" as extra un-needed code is added automatically.

will take a look at this now....

Not sure.

It could be a gecko bug, but it is broken the same way in a mozilla 1.3a which is quite recent (1.3b has issues with win9x so I'm not using it).

Or it could be the page. It doesn't pass the w3c validator but neither do 99.99999% of the pages out there.

Anyway, I only meant it as a headsup incase the IDG people didn't know about the problem since its only ~1 week old.

126377 2003-03-09 20:57:00 Yep, mine look's icky (sal.neoburn.net) too. nz_liam (845)
126378 2003-03-10 15:55:00 Seems like Graham L is right. The page looks fine in my Netscape 7, www.mis.co.nz

(especially the nice grey column where the animated advert has been stripped)

126379 2003-03-11 00:47:00 I think there is one reason why it's working for you Greg S.

They fixed it ;)
