126323 2003-03-09 09:27:00 Ok... now this is odd..

Newer version of Sandra is stating this:

RAM Int Buffered aEMMX/aSSE Bandwidth: 1896 MB/s
RAM Float Buffered aEMMX/aSSE Bandwidth: 1804 MB/s

Any new ideas?

126324 2003-03-09 09:31:00 Another thing.....

Sandra's Info on my Vid Card states:

Total Memory: 127MB (127MB Video) (64MB AGP)

What's this "64MB AGP" business?

It's a 128MB DDR Card....

126325 2003-03-09 09:57:00 Anybody? BR41NZ (3307)
126326 2003-03-10 05:13:00 In Sandra click on "Mainboard Information"
What speed does it say your FSB is running at?
I don't know much about your video-card, and the MB it is using.
But first lets get the FSB sorted out.

Click on "CPU and BIOS Information" Tell us what it says in there as well.

126327 2003-03-10 10:25:00 uhmm bad news - my mobo just died :(

looks like no comp for the night (I'm on Dad's atm)

been trying to diagnose why all day . .

it's like it's having a power fluctuation - yet it's the same on 2 different ATX PSU's . . .

booted to the point of windows XP startup (Just past Bootmagic Screen) then no video . . . powered down and it aint worked since .

talk about totally gutted . . . back tomorrow *HOPEFULLY*

126328 2003-03-10 20:58:00 Sorry to hear that. Maybe suspect RAM. If you have 2 sticks, use only 1, then swap with other to prove it. Pheonix (280)
126329 2003-03-10 22:44:00 Hey Pheonix

Yeah - I've been a technician for a while and I've got my old man here who's been doing it since the days of the ZX81 and previous... so I'm pretty sure it's not the RAM or we'd have discovered that.

1x 512MB DDR333... tried it in different slots whilst troubleshooting... still no difference. Unfortunately I have no other DDR lying around (Yet I always seem to when troubleshooting OTHER peoples computers..) so I can't change it.

Looks more like the mobo anyway. There's nothing left to troubleshoot - switched absolutely everything... including PSU's. Even tried having nothing plugged into the mobo but CPU, Video, RAM and the ATX power switch. No LED's.. no Fans even (powered up another mobo and plugged CPU fan into it to make it go heh)

ZD1 (Led next to RAM) stays on, then flicks off for a sec and comes back on for about 2 secs.. then off for a sec then on for 2 secs etc etc. When my CPU fan was plugged into my mobo you would hear it slow down when the LED switched off, then speed up again when it came back on.

This suggests to me that there's something wrong with power management - yet it did the same thing with 2 PSU's...

Interesting... whole thing worked fine for 6 months, now it's dead. Oh well - back to wholesaler for warranty replacement in about 20 mins - hopefully should be back up and running in about an hour.

126330 2003-03-11 04:35:00 YOu've blown your motherboard thats what you've done, Blown a resistor or a capacitor due to your muddling with the multiplyer settings.
That light is flicking on and off as its before the blown component and has an earth attached to it.

126331 2003-03-11 06:48:00 heh close roofus...

appearantly I fried my CPU by putting too much Arctic Silver 3 on it. (I used SFA... interesting excuse from the wholesaler) New CPU on it's way.

wont be here till tomorrow. :(

I havnt changed the Multiplier settings at all - they've been on auto since I bought the board 6 months ago.

126332 2003-03-11 09:00:00 You only need one drop of that Arctic Silver. It conducts you know. If you put too much on it will leak out onto the other lumps on the CPU and bridge between them. The Arctic Silver is there to take out air bubbles between the CPU and the heatsink. It works for me anyway.

I thought your original problem was a jumper set wrong on the Motherboard but I'm now confused as you say the whole thing was running for six months without problems.
