got xwindow running

a few problem...
since i have no idea how linux works and never used it
how exactly to you compile the programs you download
and is there a way to pass files from fat32 partition onto the ext2 one?
or is there a way to access fat32 file from linux?


also can someone give me some site for linux begginners
i seriously know nothing!!!

When you unpack the source archive there should be a file called INSTALL or README that will contain instructions. You will also need to have the development packages for your distro installed.

Just copy them with the file manager once the partition is mounted.

You can mount it in linux which will give you read/write access to it.

If you distro is nice it will already be mounted under /mnt/windows (or similar).

Mandrake User (http://www.mandrakeuser.org/) is one, although it is aimed Mandrake users.

You might be better off with a distro targeted at people who are new to unix like Mandrake, SUSE, Redhat, Lycoris etc.

They are also more widely used so it is easier to find pre-compiled packages for them (esp. redhat).

i used vector linux was because it only need a low end system
since i'm running my linux box on a old comp so... i thought that was the best choice
