| 126528 | 2003-03-08 22:20:00 | beetle That is very good advice that Murray has offered re writing down changes for future reference . I keep a notebook in which I record every configuration change that I make, and every program that I load . It is so easy to forget what you did after just a few minutes and backtracking is then so much harder . You don't need to record the simple things that you understand already of course, and the need to record will reduce as your experience grows, but just think about how much time you have expended on this current set of issues . It is not just for mistakes that you need to do this either, it also helps you to reset all your preferred settings and reinstall valued programs if you have had to restore . Now, moving on, unfortunately it is still totally unclear as to what area of the screen you are talking about when you say: this colour just looks like natural recycled paper unbleached . Even after re-reading all of this thread I can't tell whether you are looking at your desktop (the screen that displays after you switch the computer on and it has loaded ready to use) or whether you are looking at the page background in a wordprocessor . I know you are confused by all this, but you need to think through what you are posting otherwise we all go round in circles . For example, if you have never touched the settings on your monitor, there is no need to readjust them, apart from setting brightness and contrast to your personal taste . Advice sending you in that direction comes from lack of clarity in your post about your problem . I don't know it it would help, but another link up with Susan B as was used to clarify your Works WP problem might be useful right now, otherwise I still think you need somebody with experience to come in and look at what is going on . To be brutally honest, I think you are well out of your depth right now and any fix will be by good luck rather than good management . Since it is still under warranty, perhaps you should take it back to the PC Company for checking, even if you have to pay a charge . Just make sure you have all your purchase and warranty information to hand if you phone them again, or if you have lost it (God forbid), the serial number which they should be able to use to find everything else they need to know . When everything is finally back to normal, you should remember the old adage: If it ain't broke, don't fix it . It will save you a lot of time and grief . Some of your concerns might not be problems at all, just things you have now noticed as you become more familiar with your computer . You can always pop into another computer outlet and look at a display computer to see how the screen appearance compares to yours . For example, there is always a black border aound your active screen window, but the size may alter with changes in refresh rate (Hz) and can also be adjusted in your monitor height and width settings . (This is not a suggestion that you embark on another series of adjustment changes by the way, that would probably only confuse you more . ) Cheers Billy 8-{) :| |

| 126531 | 2003-03-09 03:18:00 | No need to feel sad, bad or mad bettle. Most of us have been where you are at and, speaking for myself still get there all too frequently. In most cases I know why, how is a different matter. Cheers Murray P |

| 126533 | 2003-03-09 03:30:00 | Nobody is rubbing anything in beetle . It would be totally irresponsible to lead you into deeper trouble if you are unable to cope with the problems you have at present . You would not thank us if the PC Company charged you heaps to undo all the things we told you to do . It is important to recognise when you are out of your depth, and experienced Press F1 contributors can recognise that better then most . You need to learn more about computing before you dive in and change things, and of course, you need to use the help files that are supplied in your computer for all programs . That is where you learn about features, settings and adjustments . Don't feel too disheartned, we all have to start somewhere, and perhaps I could liken the experience to learning to drive . You may know where all the basic controls are, but a learner licence doesn't allow you to take to the road driving a busload of people, you need experience for that . Nor would you get a job as a professional driver for a number years to come . Before I wrote my last response, I re-read every one of the 63 posts you had put up on F1 at that time, and taking careful note of your description of your experience and skill levels, and the problems you were having following advice because of that lack of experience, it was my personal opinion that you needed one-on-one help as you have had before from Susan, or professional hands-on help to get your computer back to normal . Other PF1 contributors may disagree with me and if so, they will apply their professional skills to resolving your problems . However, the key issue is, if you cannot understand or follow through on their advice, are we really helping you, or are we simply digging you a bigger hole with our good intentions? My final advice is, get your computer sorted for you, then concentrate on using it for a few months before you try to modify it or change critical settings . Good luck Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 126534 | 2003-03-09 05:52:00 | ok understood, but the key point is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i havent changed things ive just let most things slide, and asked only when i though these things are not meant to be normal.... i changed font size only for the reason when tired easier to read...and for the mouse something bigger to click on....lol i beleive i havent changed things unless told to, and as you say not always known how to or where to change it. and im not anti pf1 i just got really bogged down with things and couldnt handle any more brain strain, so stopped the homework and we went off to the local heritage weekend bash, and then swimming and tried not to think of all the things i needed to do! while hubby was off a the jetsprints at manfield, so we all had a break. life goes on, tommorow is another day. and thank you for your help all involved, next time ill try not to have such a stressful question! keep up the good work pressF1 peoples, i will recomend this help line to anyone, that needs it or not.......lol beetle |
