| 126770 | 2003-03-09 03:02:00 | Outlook Express email is stored in 5 or 6 files with the extension of dbx. If you delete mail from your inbox and outbox they go into the Deleted Items file. If you delete messages from this file, the file does not get any smaller. Does anyone know of a method of compressing these files ? |

| 126773 | 2003-03-09 06:41:00 | You can actually delete this file. This can be done safely ONLY for deleted items dbx file. OE reconstructs it when you delete mail again. | Pheonix (280) | ||
| 126774 | 2003-03-09 06:49:00 | Ive actually deleted the inbox outbox deleted Item Box - to overcome this problem. Windows seem to put them back ok (empty) when the computer is restarted. |

If you delete your inbox, OE reconstructs the inbox dbx file but it is now empty and you cannot recover any e-mails that were in that inbox. | Pheonix (280) | ||

Thomas, Murray gave a perfectly correct reply that would solve Digby's problem when he advised Digby to compact his Deleted emails folder . If Digby or anyone else would like some more information on Outlook Express maintenance there are some tips in this thread ( . pcworld . co . nz/thread . jsp?forum=1&thread=24430&message=80494" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz) . |

I am glad to hear that but I felt compelled to say something regarding your first comment in case Murray felt a little slighted with your implication that his advice was incorrect when in fact it was correct. |
