2012-10-06 06:49:00 | I feel like it being a 50cc engine may have something to do with its losing power up hill, just a guess. | Slankydudl (16687) | |
2012-10-06 07:06:00 | Hi, Is it a two stroke or a four stroke? In the good old days, the two stroke scooters had a habit of clogging up the muffler and thus restricting the engine breathing. This was generally fixed by burning out the carbon which had built up in the muffler, check with your nearest bike shop to see if the will do this for you.Good luck, and stay safe.Cheers

However, it sounds as though the revs are too low..too high a gear ? going up hill..then when the revs do build up the engine hits peak torque and you are away. It's only 50cc, so there will only be two throttle positions - wide open or shut :) As ruup says could be worth checking the muffler/silencer, though I expect these days the petrol/oil ratio will be around 25 to 50:1. In ruups good old days it used to be 1 pint of engine oil to 1 gallon of petrol, 8:1 and not even two stroke oil but SAE 30 engine oil. No wonder engines had to be decoked often and silencers cleaned or replaced  |

2012-10-06 08:22:00 | I have a 50cc Susuki scooter which I have not used for a while. I used to have problems with the exhaust clogging up with carbon. I do not think that it slowed me down too much. It used to give off black smoke after I first started it but this would soon settle down after the carbon was burnt out. The mechanic recommended taking it for a long run so that the carbon would be burnt out. | Bobh (5192) | |
2012-10-06 22:35:00 | Is it losing revs? ie is the engine slowing down, or is the engine maintaining good speed? It could be the drive belt / centrifugal clutch slipping. | Paul.Cov (425) | |
