1305448 2012-10-06 04:51:00 SoundHound has identified it as Adios (www.youtube.com), by Mantovani (en.wikipedia.org). Erayd (23)

1305450 2012-10-10 19:46:00 I had not heard of Soundhound, either.

I recently heard a piece of music that I would like to identify and so I had a look at Soundhound, but can't see how it works and there does not seem to be a help page. I have a mic so am able to hum the tune, but can't work it out.

Could you please tell me how it works. Thanks, Erayd.

1305453 2012-10-11 09:49:00 Could you please tell me how it works. Thanks, Erayd.Just install the app on your phone, and hit the big yellow button - it'll try to name whatever music it can hear, and has managed to successfully identify most tracks I've ever thrown at it.

Humming / whistling etc is very hit and miss though, so don't be surprised if it can't figure out what you're trying to sing :p.

1305454 2012-10-11 20:10:00 I don't have a phone that I can install an app on but I assume that it can be installed on my PC so I will give that a try.

Thanks for that, Erayd.

1305456 2012-10-11 20:49:00 I hadn't heard of Soundhound for Android, but this thread made me seek it out for my Nexus 7, and it correctly identified most of the tunes I tried it on. It isn't all that flash on New Zealand music, but that is to be expected. It correctly identified a tune off a disc which is a compilation of Celtic music (Celtic Connections), but misidentified the disc it came from - presumably it identified the original disc from which it was taken. With a number of tunes, it said there were no close matches, but if the tune was left to play on and SH was tried again, it correctly identified the tune when it got into the main part of the music - presumably it has problems with the lead in chords on some tracks - hardly surprising. Patience may be the keyword.

Thanks for the steer - that wee app is going to end the occasional bout of frustration when I hear a tune but can't identify it...
