| 1305917 | 2012-10-09 07:47:00 | A widget called 'Data Enabler'. Basically it enables you to turn on and off 3g data from your home screen, which is something Android can't do natively. Saves you from using 3g data when you don't want too. The way I do it is to make up a false APN and set it to that. Rather than the default Telecom wap/internet. Since turning off packet data sometimes would auto turn back on. Apps I use - mainly for reading and listening: - Google Reader - for Dozens of subscribed tech/marketing feeds - Pulse - Mainly subscribed to Android blogs/forums - as learning about it; e.g. Android Atlas, droid life, central, etc. The Verge, All things D, Best of Tech, etc. These are all available - just need to select/activate. - Stuff NZ - TuneIn Radio - 1000's of stations and podcasts - including some from pcworld nz - Scanner Radio - Listening to supposedly recent recorded LAPD/Chicago police - Appaware for popular/latest apps Utilities/Tools: - QR Barcodes to quickly scan url's from pc to mobile - Smart Measure - Alarm Clock Extreme - Sound Meter - Level Meter -Speed View for car speed - Where's my Droid - Easy battery Saver - App to SD - 1 Tap Cleaner - Avast Antivirus |

First of all there's the killing of apps which means they're slower next time to load up Secondly there's the time wasted prematurely killing everything, the CPU cycles required to do-so, and subsequently most of them will try and "flush" the RAM. Thirdly there's the fact that most of them run in the background at all times Forth is when you automatically schedule it to kill off tasks without realizing some apps require a "service" to run which starts back up automatically anyway 9/10x Task Killers ACTUALLY do more harm than good on Android. Android is *not* Windows, the whole "I have a process, it must be bad, my RAM is full, it must be bad" doesn't apply... |

It takes minimal brain power to exclude the clock and the email app and other items that just relaunch immediately, But I see no reason for GTA to still be cached six hours after I last played it, Nor does keep it running warrant a faster load time. Haven't seen an option to "flush" or scrub the ram, Though I haven't been looking for such a feature. Which is pointless on windows as well, as you well know despite your comparison. I usually use mine to kill off the apps that insist on loading up notifications, Until I can get around to uninstalling them. |

My brother was just like you, he had one on his Galaxy Mini, and it also "intelligently" turned off WiFi and other things. It would never last him the day, it'd literally die before 5PM I convinced him to get rid of it for a week, I said he had very little to lose. Immediately he noticed his battery would last him easily until 10PM bedtime. Not that that's the real world though or anything ;) It makes more of a difference than you realize. |

I assure you that the fact that your bother done something uninteresting with his whatever it is...... doesn't create any similarity between him and myself. You seem to be basing your point of view on a few misconceptions, But hey, that's alright. | Metla (12) | ||
