1331841 2013-03-08 01:37:00 Yeah I'm stuck on 2 Degrees with work. My brother is with Vodafone for his Work, and he's always moving around different parts of auckland on a daily basis as part of his job. He can't stand them either.

2degrees have their own network in Auckland, so what Vodafone do with theirs won't affect you. The benefit of Vodafone's 900mhz 3G network is only realised if you have a 900mhz UMTS capable phone. Most modern 3G phones are, but not all. What kind of phone does your brother have on Vodafone?

1331842 2013-03-08 01:42:00 Yes I know what you're talking about, I live and breath VoIP all day every day, but there's bugger all point in that if less people are using Cellphones for calling, right?

It reduces the cost of calling infrastructure. It's also a lot more flexible and so things like integration with things like your home or office phone become easier. While voice traffic has decreased, there will always be a level of demand for it. There is also a shift away from landline phones, particular in my generation (Gen-Y), which has a small stimulating effect on the demand for mobile voice minutes. I buck the trend a bit and typically use more voice minutes than I send SMS, but that's not common among my peers.

I'm looking forward to 4G launching here on Vodafone AU. I currently register my home SIP trunk to my Android phone, which works OK over 3G, but isn't perfect. It should be pretty solid over LTE.

1331843 2013-03-08 02:05:00 Mate you're preaching to the converted, I know what SIP / VoIP does, but as you say people are using it less and less, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make? This uses even MORE data so we'll chew through our piddly data caps faster... Chilling_Silence (9)
1331844 2013-03-08 02:13:00 Just because it's being used less doesn't mean it's going to stop being used, of course going forward it makes sense for services to all come from the one technology. I am guessing less active radios = better battery life also. Alex B (15479)
1331845 2013-03-08 02:29:00 Do you use Vodafone daily in Auckland? I've heard numerous reports of VF users in Auckland being amazed by the coverage they now have.

The only thing amazing about Vodafone 3G coverage in Auckland is how patchy and slow it is in this day and age.

1331846 2013-03-08 03:01:00 I'm with inphinity... It blows.

My brother had a Galaxy S, then the international HTC One X (Borrowed my old one) as well as the Google / LG Nexus 4! All same performance on Vodafone: crappy!

Even in the past few weeks? Parts of the 900mhz network are still coming online around the fringes of the city, I am led to believe.

Occasionally I get all 4 bars, but it can go from no network detected to some bars, back to no network detected and then a reasonable signal, all in the matter of minutes. Usually the morning is worse and I can't even use the Vodafone app to check the balance because I get network errors.

Seriously considering changing to Telecom.

What handset are you using?

1331850 2013-03-08 04:47:00 I get the feeling you're hell bent on Vodafone being good. The truth is far from that, in Auckland, they're pretty bloody awful... Without being disrespectful, why are you so convinced otherwise? Chilling_Silence (9)
