1306082 2012-10-10 01:46:00 Asus all of the things. icow (15313)
1306083 2012-10-10 01:54:00 Also Lenovo and Sager for laptops.

For desktops, most oems are pretty damn terrible. (asus being a potential exception lol) They'll use budget mass manufactured stuff that 'just works' but doesn't do much more than that. Custom built stuff may cost slightly more but at the same time the performance differences are astonishing.

If you'll note the results compared with custom built versus OEM here:

yes it's acer but there's not much difference between them and others really, at least not in terms of desktops.

If you're deploying massive amounts of machines in a business or something, then yeah dell are often used lol

1306084 2012-10-10 04:15:00 The acer is way overpriced though compared to the others... ChazTheGeek (16619)
1306085 2012-10-12 00:23:00 lenovo for laptops

1306086 2012-10-12 00:41:00 Custom for Desktops

Asus is great for laptops, I have found my HP's tend to be a bit dicey, the upper end models tend to be fine reliability wise. Crapware kills them for standard consumers. Build quality is iffy, recently their Pavillion Lineup has been spot on with user damage being the only fail.

1306087 2012-10-12 00:53:00 PC: Brand name BUSINESS CLASS PC . These tend to be very reliable (HP Business PC's are VERY reliable, but most dont sell them)
not the home pc from dick smith etc
not compact, sff or micro PC's

Custom Built: Ive seen just too many dodgy, unreliable custom & NZ built PC's
They tend to be assembled for the lowest possible cost with the cheapest possible components .
Custom PC's can be great, but the average joe just gets nasty cheapo's & really doesnt know what to ask for in the build.

Also be realistic about the usefull, reliable life of PC & notebooks.

1306088 2012-10-12 01:29:00 Custom PC's aren't necessarily rubbish. Look at my signature. That's one I've built from quality parts.
Works absolutely fine. I've seen many good custom PC's too.
