1305991 2012-10-09 20:01:00 I'd say their call to block Huawei from mobile sales is poor form, there is not much they can do with consumer data. If you are concerned I guess they could refuse to allow Huawei/ZTE devices around Govt material but other than that its silly, now the claims with NZ are different, that was because they were making all the hardware that connects the network infrastructure. They could effectively cut off all NZ/US traffic or snoop on any data going between should they secretly implement a means of doing so. Therefore, IF the claims have ground I'd say fair call. In the even the claims are false I'd like to know the US's motive to blocking Chinese parts. The Error Guy (14052)
1305992 2012-10-09 20:04:00 @ Nick: Apples with apples. On one hand (yours), you're talking about measuring an absolute number, but on the other (mine), I'm using the debt as a percentage of GDP.

This is a measure of the debt in relation to the economy and of the capacity to carry and repay debt. The US Debt to GDP ratio is getting larger, as the US economy's debt is growing faster than the GDP.

Let's hope the latter doesn't emulate Greece' which approached around 115%, predicating a major crisis.

Growing debt faster than you GDP is never good. My point wasn't that the US debt wasn't high in total, but most of their debt isn't to China. Of course, 13% of 16 trillion is still a lot
And yes, I hope too it never gets as bad as Greece, that would not be good.

Americans are OK they have a constitution with the right to bear arms, so if the people get really annoyed with the government they could get rid of the.

The Chinese equipment will break long before any spies can get any usage out of it!

1305997 2012-10-13 11:03:00 Yanks debt to China is actually pretty small. Can't say I'm too thrilled about the Chinese making all our internet equipment though.
Well I wouldn't mind 0.01% of that pretty small.

No, I reckon I could find a use for 0.01% of it as well ;).
