Apps I like; Pocket - for storing passwords and logins K9 - if the default E-mail client isn't good enough I like this as an alternative trademe - the app is more usable than the website on a phone size screen Onkyo remote - if you have an onkyo receiver this is cool Kindle - I have an e-reader but sometimes I find myself with just the phone and time to kill and it syncs between the app and the e-reader Toms hardware westpac cash tank vodafone app for WoW players battlenet authenticator - extra security to prevent account hacking armory - for remote guild chat and auctions etc |

Noooooo! Don't do it!! Task killers are bad and only end up sucking juice making life worse. Just don't even bother. Use the built-in methods if you *really* must kill a task.... geekfor.me lifehacker.com A few things if you're getting started: 1) Sign in to G+ and use Instant Upload, it backs up all your images / videos, so if your phone is ever lost they're all safe (And private -- It won't share them via Instant Upload, just have them "ready" on Googles servers) 2) Sign in to Talk, this is the Google Talk app and it's used by Android users, Gmail users, Google+ users, and openly communicates with thousands and thousands of other XMPP / Jabber servers. I have quite the list of people now on it. It'll be small at first, but just ask people for their Gmail when you meet them and slowly add them to your list. It's well worth it! 3) Try Hangouts in G+ from your Mobile, and the voice / video calling from Talk too. 4) If your phone has NFC, grab NFC Task Launcher and spend $5 and order some NFC tags: play.google.com (Example cool stuff of why you want to use NFC: plus.google.com ) 5) SMS messages won't get backed up, occasionally you may want to use this then email yourself the resulting XML file: play.google.com 6) If you're running ICS or newer, install Chrome, the tab-sync stuff is REALLY useful, as is the "Send to Mobile" from your desktop browser 7) Get a feel for installing Apps from the browser on your PC, see how you can hit the button and it'll send it to your phone 8) Check out using Google Music, upload all your music to Googles servers (You have to sign up using HotSpotShield initially but once you've done the signup you can remove HotSpotShield from your desktop and never need to worry again). It's well worth doing! 9) See if your home theatre system / TV / Media players / whatever, have a remote control you can use from your phone. My TiVo, WDTV & Onkyo receiver all do, and it's HANDY! 10) Add a credit-card to your account. It's worth it, a lot of apps are only a dollar or two which won't break the bank. Use a prepaid / debit card if you have to, but you REALLY want to. On the occasion that Google does their massive "10 apps a day, for 10 days, for 10c each" sales and things, you'll WANT to be ready to roll too! Apps I use (Just checking / listing SOME of what's currently on my tablet and phone that I'd probably fire up at least once a week): aTimer Amazing Alex / Angry Birds / Bad Piggies Astro File Manager Battleheart Chrome Cut the Rope Google Earth Google+ Impossible Game Jelly defense LogMeIn Muffin Knight MX Player Pro SleepTime TeamSpeak3 TradeMe Have fun :D |

Why I use that app to do it - the option it adds to the notification bar means I can kill an app even if it *won't* let me return to my home screen. :) |

Still not worth going there, you can always kill the app by pushing the home button and then either pushing & holding Home, or pushing the recent apps list button. On some phones if you push and hold the Back button it'll force-close the currently live app too. |
