| 1331557 | 2013-03-06 06:38:00 | I am currently running this setup for flight sim PSU Silverstone ST60F-ES Mobo Asus P5Q Pro CPU Intel E8600 Ram F2-8500CLD5-4GBPK GPU EVGA GT550 ti HD Seagate ST500DM002 Not the latest technology, but it handles FSX ok. It has been suggested if I tweak it up to at least 3.5 GHz, the sim will run smoother. Had a search on google for the info I need but cant find exactly what I need to do it correctly. I don't want a trial & error situation. Can someone point me in the right direction. |

| 1331558 | 2013-03-06 07:07:00 | Well essentially you go into bios and raise the core clock for your cpu.... but in order to over clock properly you will want to download any benchmark software and keep reducing the core voltage until eventually it will not be stable and then you set it to the one you had just before. so unfortunately if you want to over clock with the most efficiency there is no way to not do trial and error. The whole point of reducing the core voltage as much as possible is to keep the temperature down as much as you can. |

| 1331561 | 2013-03-06 19:32:00 | Only way to overclock Wolfdale is with the front side bus or FSB, but you first need to isolate the memory from the limit of the overclock. So you have to select a boot strap for the RAM which run it slow than its rated so when you increase the FSB, the RAM does restrict you....So with locked multiplier, you CPU has 10 x FSB of 333 gives you 3.33GHz. With good cooling and a bit more voltage you might get it up to 4.5ghz, but the whole clocking performance advantage will come down to what you can run your memory at with your overclock....check out this review, it might get you some incentive... www.xbitlabs.com Dont forget the important stuff like stress software to valid the stability of any OC, as Slanky invaluably suggested..... |

| 1331562 | 2013-03-06 20:07:00 | I hate to tell you,overclocking wil not do much to improve performance. What exactly is your problem? What addons do you have in FSX? What area are you flying in? Your computer should be OK with basic FSX,but as you put in addons you need more and more power. Try emptying cache and defraging before you start flying. Another 4 gigs of ram could help. |

| 1331563 | 2013-03-06 20:55:00 | Here's a massive thread on overclocking the E8500 which is pretty much the same CPU but with a 9.5x multi instead of 10x: www.gpforums.co.nz I had an E8500 and a P5Q Pro (epic overclocking combo back in the day). At your own risk of course but you would probably get away with the following: 400Mhz FSB 10x CPU multi* (i.e. 4.0GHz) 1.25v vCore 1.30v NB voltage 1.20v VFSB 1.50v CPU PLL 333MHz strap 1:1 FSB : DRAM** Two things to note: *First start with a lower CPU multi, say 8x. If that's stable try 9x, then 10x. **Once you've got the CPU stable you can try a higher memory ratio. 1:1 will equal = 800MHz, and your ram is rated at 1066MHz. So either raise the ram speed or drop the latency down to 4-4-4-12 or something. |

I followed this: forums.overclockers.co.uk All went well & the system appears to be running happily. I am assuming it is running at 4GHz from the figures on CPU-Z Other than that, nothing appears to be different |
