127143 2003-03-11 01:59:00 Bit early yet,I reckon,time will tell. Thomas (1820)
127144 2003-03-11 02:01:00 Bit early for what? It supports both + and - rw and r formats. The only writer out there that does it.

127145 2003-03-11 02:15:00 We observed that, always like to give them a bit of time to sort out and improve speed etc.
Not saying you should,t have bought old boy, just a bit circumspect by nature,so good luck and I will tell you about mine in 12 months.

127146 2003-03-11 02:19:00 Yeah, I was thinking that too. You have to remember however that writing at faster speeds doesn't actually mean that it's a good choice due to jitter errors, etc when playing back on a standalone DVD player.

That aside, I upgrade quite often myself too. In 12 months, I can see myself thinking about the next DVD writer... ;)

And I guess that one will do DVD RAM as well as the other two! Or will we still be using DVDs in 12 months. Sigh.

Anyway, I am just jealous ;-) and probably trying to rain on your parade.

What were your thoughts about DVD RAM, Lohsing? I understand it is a really good format for back ups and longevity of disks, but the other two formats are more commonly used. Have I got that right?

127149 2003-03-11 03:39:00 well thomas, if you wait for the next best thing in technology standards, u will never get anything, it is always getting better!!!! Jams (1051)
127150 2003-03-11 04:15:00 We know that Jams, but there are some things that can be worth the wait,I mean do you have a mad need for DVD? Thomas (1820)
127151 2003-03-11 04:33:00 Well, I don't know about DVD-Ram, but I do know that there is a new format shortly about to be released(Blu-ray (cdfreaks.com))... I think it's a blue-violet laser and each recordable disc is capable of holding up to 27.4 gigs...

Makes the 4.7 currently available look very small.
