| 127553 | 2003-03-12 07:28:00 | I dunno if Lycoris setup has anything to do with this... but it wont begin, It gets to something like "Starting LIZARD Lycoris install Wizard" and hangs after a minute or two :( I dunno if this has anything to do with it, but its the only thing that's not really working fully at the moment on my system (Im comfortable with it enough now, that RedHat 8 is the default, as opposed to my 2K/XP Boot loader). Basically, Ive got my onboard AC '97 soundcard, which isnt all that great, or my SB!Live PCI soundcard which can really pump out some good sounds. How do I change it in Linux so that it uses my SB!Live and not my onboard. Ive also got NZ_Liam's problem, where I type sndconfig as my user or root and it doesnt work.. comes up saying that command is invalid. How rude! Anyways, any suggestions/comments much appreciated. Thanks Chilling_Silence BTW - Just for the record, the Lycoris and SB!Live is my PC, and the A4Tech mouse is for the Family's PC.. I installed redhat this avo! :D Thanks guys |

| 127554 | 2003-03-12 07:32:00 | Can't you disable the onboard sound in your BIOS? That way Linux shouldn't be able to pick it up if it's disabled. |

In doze i can simply tell it to use the SB!Live as my preffered device, how do I do it in linux? And yes... when I go su - it works with sndconfig but when I go su it doesnt? | 127561 | 2003-03-12 08:10:00 | I would have thought if it has successfully detected the sound card and you heard the sounds generated by sndconfig as part of the setup, it should just go!! The su - gives access the the path statement for root so you dont have to type the full pathway to run the program - e.g. /sbin/sndconfig |
